Sports Chromo dial on dash

Hi all,
May be a silly question but I like the Sports Chromo dial to be lit up when using lights at night, but how do you have it illuminated without the stopwatch activated? Basically at 00.00. Been trying to set it up but can't do it...anyone know how??

You can have it enabled to be permanently turned on by the dealer using the PIWIS. They would have to select the 'Stopwatch' control module and then 'Modify Coding', they will find an option in there to set it to be 'permanently lit'.
 
Good question. I was thinking the same thing just today driving home in the dark. Can it be done?
 
You can activate the chrono but not set it off, it will then be lit at 00:00 but for it to be lit all the time, then Nick is correct- Its a dealer request. garyw
 
I don't know why Porsche insist on making these "user-preference" options dealer only. The scope of the Sports Chrono package has gone far beyond putting a silly clock on the dash - as far, in the new turbo, as to include the fancy engine mounts.
 
Sadly I can fully understand... Every client that has an incline of our menu systems has gone in, screwed it up and then called us out complaining of issues.... Oh no! we never touched it.....!! [&:] I little knowledge can be a dangerous thing... garyw
 
I remember the days when Porsche told you what programing options were available. It is difficult enough getting a dealer to change the lock settings these days. btw in addition to the Sports Chrono 'wart' illumination some of the other lesser known options include: The windows raise/drop with the key remote (this used to be standard). Daylight running lights (for those without the PCM options). Not have the 'fog' lights switch off when main beam is selected. There are many more.
 
You can set the light on by selecting the chrono option on the stork, start the timer and then stop it immediately, DO NOT RESET IT and hey presto, when you turn the lights on the sport chrono will be lit up, every time. It might say 00:01 or something similar but you will not notice that. Saves having to take into the dealer and means you can switch it off by resetting the counter back to zero. Hope it helps Steve
 
Personally, having had two other cars with Sport Chrono, I only specced it with my present 911 because it has PDK and thus I get Sport control+. However, I really would wish that Porsche fitted an analogue clock with stopwatch facility. Hardly much to ask, but I suppose, like flappy paddles, they will introduce that as an extra soon!
 
Has anyone actually used the Sport Chrono clock to time some laps or a journey. On my track days I found the challenge of staying on the black stuff, avoiding other cars, being in the right gear etc etc meant that I was never able to operate the clock as you have to start it, stopit and start it again in the same position each lap if you want to accurately record each lap. I never managed to do that on a consistent basis and so concluded it was just too difficult to use
 
To be honest, I think it's a completely pointless feature and should be available separately from the other stuff which comes bundled with the option, such as the clever engine mounts. If you visit the factory, you see the station where the hole for the clock is cut out of a standard, already leather clad dashboard so it would be easy to have a DTFSC option. And have you seen the cost of giving it a non-standard colour dial?
 
Entirely straightforward to make this an option one might think but for want of a better reason I expect every sale of Sports Chrono credits against the cost of the robot which laser cuts the hole. I have enquired about independent removal and was advised it is not possible (Eric @ Bumperplugs in US) + technician at OPC suggested that if unplugged a fault would occur - not sure if material (didn't ask)... On subject of making configuration options available to driver there are limited options available in the Chrono package (through PCM) but if the standard of the software programming is anything to go by offering more options would be a challenge to Porsche itself: in "lock on ignition" I occasionally get a double-beep on ignition (not in other lock modes) which I duly reported to OPC (I was not suspecting anything other than a real alarm fault) who considered it important enough to have the car looked at, courtesy car advised, alarm siren battery replaced to no avail - once established that there is no perceivable fault it's back to if you can replicate it sir we can have a look at it...
 
I think the fact that many people refer to it as a wart says it all - We all like the other functions but no one really seems to get the timer thing. Now if it was mad into an analogue clock then that would be nice, its in a good position to easily see the time with ones peripheral vision and not taking eyes off the road.

Well, let's say you were buying a Guards Red car and you wanted red instrument dials, all 5 of them, €589. If you wanted the Sport Chrono clock to be red as well, that's an additional €345, for just one small dial. Sport Chrono is the most expensive option on my car, more than PDK, more than RS Spyder.

Cro-mo / Chromo / cromo - is a commonly used used contraction of "chrome molybdenum" steel tubing used in bike frames and numerous other applications.
