Sports exhaust

Glad u happy Mark...PSE really makes a lot of difference and the best after markt option I think..My Gen 1 4S has the sports chrono pack so came with it but bafflers went pretty quickly causing a clattery sound at about 80mph..all sorted under warranty tho so no hassle..I understand PSE to retro fit is very expensive now..my mate David Cross (on the forum) had one put on his gen1 for about £1200 18 months ago from OPC Colchester...here it is now nearly £2k!!!! Regards Ben

Thanks Demarne, I had PSE on my Gen 1 2S and loved it, so it had to be fitted to the new car. The Gen 1 was louder with the new DFI engine in the Gen 2 car being quieter overall. Cost to fit was £1957 inc VAT from Mid Sussex. The car is coming up a year old, so I thought it would be a good birthday present for it or a good excuse to spend some cash! ;-) Cheers Mark

agree Steve, I would love the feature to immediately turn Sport on from turning the ignition key instead of having to press buttons afterwards. The M3 has exactly this choice which I find useful.

The additional switch I fitted to my own car effectively does this. It also overcomes the cut out that occurs at certain speeds , whilst still allowing the exhaust to be changed back to quiet mode with a simple press of a button.

Getting PSE retro fitted onto my 997.2 PDK (bought in March new) this Wednesday by my dealer Porsche Tonbridge. Looking forward to a new look.............and sound [:)]

Just wondering about this, my car has Sports Chrono package. Will I get the exhaust button or do I just press my 'normal' sports button to get a little extra in the sound department?

Turn the sports chrone on the turn off the sports suspension. that way u get the rasp of the sports exhaust without getting your kidneys shaken to bits in the process!!!

Having read a story on the web this morning of a motorcyclist jailed for speeding at 166mph , it's interesting that the police were alerted (and therefore given time to prepare) by the sound of the approaching motorcyle. I still believe the option to put the exhaust to quiet mode when wishing to press on without drawing attention to oneself is a valuable and worthwhile facility to have.

Got the deed done at my dealer (Porsche Tonbridge) last week. Even though my 997.2 has sports chrono, they still fitted the exhaust button onto the dash (to the right of the sports plus button). Really glad about that as I didn't like the idea of it engaged solely with the sports/sports plus button engaged. As to actually how it looks sounds and feels, here goes. Looks! When I first saw pictures of the PSE I hated it. Some have already mentioned the 'circumcised' look. When I finally physically saw one last month I did a complete about turn. I thought the PSE looked great. Very purposeful and aggressive looking. As has been mentioned already here, because the black inserts stick out the outer silver metal stays nice clean ALL the time. So overall I'm totally chuffed in the looks department. The Sound! Whilst the note does get a little louder (not by much IMO), the 'note or tone' is completely different than the standard exhaust. It's definitely a deeper sound and has a slightly hollow tone to it in the same way you would expect a high performance (non V8/V12) engine to sound. If I were trying to put together a number of machines to create this sound I'd say it sort of sounds like a cocktail of Jet engine, washing machine and chainsaw all rolled into one [:D] The Feel! Call it placebo effect but when accelerating from 6th/7th gear, the car most definitely seems less bogged down when accelerating from these high gears at lower speeds. As I said, this could simply be my imagination playing tricks but I'm in the audio/video business where placebo has a permanent home and I try extra hard not to be taken in. Cheers Eric

Hi Eric I see you have now had the PSE fitted, In your opinion, is it worth the additional cost. I had one retro-fitted to my Gen 1 C2S and loved it, always thought the cars should come fitted with them as standard but for some reason I am not so sure of the value on the Gen 2 so would appreciate your candid opinion. ? Hi Steve, To be honest I was weighing this up for a number of weeks before I pulled the trigger. I think it's well worth the additional cost for the end result. The other thing to think about is how long you intend to keep the car. My plan is to P/X this one when the new 911 becomes available in approx 2012 (which is perfect timing for me as I tend to keep my cars for about 3 years and move them on for a new one). On that basis working backwards, a cost of say approx £700 per year is well worth the extra enjoyment/looks the PSE offers IMO. So all in all depends on how long you intend to 'use' the £2k. By the way, whilst we'll probably only achieve a few pennies more when the time comes to sell, the car would IMO be slightly more desirable when the time comes to off load it so all in all a no brainer in my view. To summarize, I'd say go for it. Worth the money if you intend to keep the car for a few years.

Incidentally, (and I don't know how useful or relevant this is), the service manager at Porsche Tonbridge just rang and asked if I wanted my 'old' exhaust system from the car. Having been looking at a PSE for the last few months I can't remember anyone mentioning they were offered their old exhaust system after PSE was fitted. Just thought I'd mention this. Didn't take him up on his offer by the way.

Senna, you did the right thing... There have been quite a few posted on here (and probably ebay) but there never seems to be any takers... I think you'd of sat on it for a while.. garyw

absolutely!!i still have a virtually brand new steering wheel boxed up no takers!!18 months on....
