Nice loan car ,...... a BMW MSport 340i. ... but just doesn’t float my boat as a weekend feel good car 👍

You're a PCGB member, that's how it should be. [:D]

Picked the car up and first impression is visually it’s a massive improvement. Obviously I’ve only driven from my local OPC but I’m not overly aware during inner city driving that’s it’s notably stiffer. Except when I went over some rumble strips entering a 30mph zone. It really rumbles 😂😎👍. Hopefully I’ll get out to play on some nice A roads tomorrow to get a better feel for the improvements on handling 👍

So been out today for about 160 miles and covered all road types other than motorway. So everything I say is of course just my opinion as this sort of topic is very subjective. Simplest way I suppose is to answer questions I’ve asked. 1 Does the car look visually more pleasing? Yes 2 Does the car feel more stiffly sprung? Yes 3 Has it spoilt the car when just driving around very sedately? No 4 Has it effected the entry in and out of the car being its 20 mm lower? No not for me 5 Has it improved the cars handling when things get a little more spirited? Oh yes considerably 6 Does it get uncomfortable and a bit of a bone shaker when driving more spirited? No 7 Could I live with it if it was my daily? Yes I could 8 What will the Mrs think? Don’t know but I’ll ask her following R10’s rally in two weeks where we will be covering probably in excess of 600 miles as we are staying in Northampton for a break after the rally.

So basically I’m very pleased with it. The car just feels more planted than when it was standard especially when driving spiritedly. I suppose if I was buying a brand new car then PASM is probably the way forward being the best of both worlds I suppose. Although I’ve never driven a car with PASM so I’m only going on what I’ve read and been told by others.

Sounds like a great overall result and the car's stance is much improved. Did you bother with the 5mm spacers at the same time ?

No spacers but that might be something I visit next year. Also the car is currently on 19inch wheels which I’m more than happy with but if a set of 20inch comes my way I’d probably try them also along with spacers. 👍

Sounds like a great result, I just need to sort the sports design steering wheel first....

I am sort of in the same boat, steering wheel could be improved, but the overall benefit of going X73 would transform how the car drives and looks. Slightly more labour to fit the suspension though [&:]

Have you completed many miles on the new setup yet, and if so what is the overall result ?
Hi Kaiser981. I’ve done about 1k miles since the retro fit including a trip away with the Mrs up to R10’s recent rally. So what is my informed opinion:-

1 It definitely makes the car stiffer and as a result it feels much more planted on the road.

2 The co pilot and navigator did indeed comment that the car was a bit more firm on the recent R10 rally but not uncomfortable and didn’t spoil the ride.

3 Here’s something that I never even considered. Whilst following the R10 route the roads weren’t the best and both myself and co pilot needed to stop more than once for the call of nature. If you know what I mean. So that should give you some idea of the increased stiffness over standard as we probably wouldn’t have needed those stops (or at least not two) with normal suspension maybe. I don’t see this as a problem but will just factor this in in future before a journey. 4 Am I happy I went down this route. Yes I’ve no regrets. Visually it looks much better and in all honesty I usually pick nice fast smooth A roads for my drives. Here in Wales we are blessed with such roads. Yes traveling into unknown areas following routes that are smaller B roads with a little rougher a surface then you are definitely going to feel that your in a much more stiffer a car. 5 I’ve never driven a car with PASM but am of the opinion it’s probably going to give you the best of both worlds. A bit like PSE. Childish and noisy when wanted then with a push of a button quieter and more grown up.

Hope this helps

Forgot to mention my current set up is with 19inch wheels. I’m probably going to source a set of 20inch wheels. Not sure if this will make any difference or indeed just make it even more stiffer.

It may be worth careful consideration regarding 20 inch wheels. Due to the inside diameter of the rim it may make the brake disks look proportionally small. Almost like they belong on a VW Poio.

Sean,

Don’t forget that larger diameter wheels mean lower profile tyres for a given rolling radius and therefore stiffer sidewalls, equalling an even firmer ride with your set-up. Difficult to quantify though.

PASM with a DSC Controller or maybe B16 DampTronic Bilsteins could have helped if you’d had an active damper set-up, but obviously not an option for you.

I agree with the 20inch wheel setup and probably will try just to see the difference. I enjoy modding vehicles and just look at it as part of ownership. It also let’s me get a more informed understanding of the vehicle and what it feels like with different setups etc. Suspension has always been a compromise and I would agree an active setup would definitely be better. Especially something like PASM for the less educated on the dark art of suspension set up would be best and I definitely included myself here 😂

I am on 20" with Pzeros all round, there's plenty of rubber there ;-)

Thank you for the update, pretty much have my mind set on this being the next improvement to the Boxster.
