Spring Drive

Evening all,

As per the Porsche Post. The April drive is being organised on the 27th. We will be meeting up at Dobbies and from there going further down south, mainly along the coast to the Holy Island. Lunch will be in the Cornhill area and we are hoping to stop at the Jim Clark room on the way back. It would be much appreciated that those who intend to come along can provide me or Alan their names so that we can arrange lunch. Any questions, please let us know.

Regards,

Ash

Hi Ash, how are the numbers for the drive shaping up?

It might be a good idea to let those going what the route will be as it is sometimes easier for some members to join further down instead of travelling up to Edinburgh only to turn around and drive back.

What's involved? is it a mad rush to the Holy Island or are we stopping en route, same on the return when going to the Jim Clark museum an email to those attending will keep it secure too rather than posting on the public forum.

Thanks in advance,

Bill.

I will be coming along ,so a itinerary would be great without giving to much of the day away ,as I said before not looking for a 100 mph run down and then back again want to see a bit of the country side so are there stops on the way etc

I think this run's a great idea. Sorry we won't be able to make it (going be down in England that weekend).

Hello,

Apologies for not posting comments earlier. Brian / Scott, I've taken note.

Taking your comments aboard, I would like to say that I want everybody to appreciate the drive.
From past experience, convoys always get seperated at some point. So my suggestion is that, I will provide details of the route and stops and as much as possible, we will stick together on the road. But should anyone go astray, they can rely on the maps (or their sat-navs!) to reach the next stop.
My intention was to go slower for the first stints (to the Island and to the lunch stop) and then pick up speed on the last ones, since people tend to go different ways then but also because there are no stops after that. That way, we can try (using that word lightly) to bring a bit of speed and enjoyment to the group. Here's a brief layout:

Leave Dobbies then proceed towards the coastal route via Longniddry and North Berwick for a relaxed drive, then a cruise down to Holy Island (first stop) via the A1.
Will be on the island for about 1 hour then go to Cornhill for lunch (near Coldstream-2nd stop).
The drive from there to Duns will be a lot better (to make up for the A1!). The Jim Clark room will be our final stop and from there we will go back towards Edinburgh via a very twisty and pretty route (loads to see there Brian), albeit at a slightly higher pace where some can extend their RPMs.
Note the Room closes at 4p.m, so will try and make it for at least 3.15-3.30 to allow everyone to have a nose about.

Bill - Won't reveal more otherwise I'm going to have my head cut off. Numbers wise, we've got between 15-20 people, so counting about 10 cars. I'm happy with this and it makes it more manageable for me in a sense, considering this is my first drive event, though we can cater for a fair few more! Again, I don't have access to the mail group Bill but I will forward exact details by end of the week to Alan, to forward to the people. Thanks for the support so far.

Regards,

Ash

Ash,
Just emailed Alan so this is confirmation I'll be along with or without back seat driver.
(I have a boxster.)

Cheers
Andrew

Thanks Andrew. I would indeed appreciate if people send their request by email so that we can keep the list 'live' ,as we don't check the forum daily.

I can confirm maps will be handed on the day but if anybody has questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Ash

Any idea of the total mileage as very low on the fuel have been to a few and no V power available ,I have a tank range showing 200 so doubt this will be enough

Total mileage would be in the region of 180 miles (listed distances only, so not taking into account your drive to Dobbies)
I strongly suggest you all fill up before the journey. Shell pump off the City Bypass A720 normally has V-power available but don't leave this to the last minute (with strike at Grangemouth and all, maybe you can top up on the Saturday?)
Note, I have not taken into account any fuel stops (most of ones on the route aren't shell or bp anyway) .
Though there is a filling station off the causeway of the Holy Island which people could use during our hour long stop, if they don't mind using normal petrol. This can be done before we proceed for lunch.

Filled it to the brim this evening just in case. For anyone south/west of Glasgow who's having trouble finding petrol, Shell Erskine has V-Power but nothing else! [:D][:D][:D] However they will also have diesel (possibly V-Power) from tomorrow. See you Sunday.

POSTSPONED till the 1st June due to fuel shortage situation .This date unfortunatly clashes with a Classic car show that is on at Thirlestane Castle I am attending with the Tipec club a few of the guys and gals from this club are doing a charity fun raiser at the same venue for Sporting Bears

Loads of petrol about filled up the tank tonight and it was cheaper than last time BP Ultimate 1.14 ltr girl said got a tanker in today ,never ran out of fuel during the week of the panic

Thats good news for me!

I will be back from offshore then so will be able to attend!

The porsche is down with Rob @ autoservices in hartlepool just now getting a uprated clutch, 525 bhp killed the stock 28k on in two weeks! and thats without any drag starts!
A new BBK, i had fitted the GT2 six pots with 350mm discs and pagid yellows but the discs started cracking after 1k miles and only a wee bit madness![&o] So the new brakes are 380mm preformance friction discs, floating on alloy bells and Race calipers, and the same on the rear but with 4 pot calipers, should be good![:)][:)][:)]

And its also getting a oem GT2 front end, rads moved, inner wings, everything!
The rear is getting the GT2 rear wing from "Misha" in america, they are very good quality i am told, and not 4k!

The cars getting there, engine wise I have not done much, just K24 turbos with GT2 intercoolers, silcone boost hoses and diverter valves, miltech exaust system, a Techart air box using a std paper air filter, as i was a bit worried the K+N might kill the maf!
and of coures a re map by rob [;)]

running gear is much as std, Full polly bushes, GT3 arbs, Geos by redline, Tech art wheels, rolled Arches on the rear, and thats about it i think...

I look forward to meeting up with you all then!

cheers robin.
