Spyder Stats

Welcome to the exclusive Spyder club :)
So, your Spyder has some celebrity status ;-)

Might it be this one

Or might it be the one that beat the R8

Not sure yet. Spyder has spoiled me due to its youth and it being so special. The hunt is usually half the fun though. GT3 still only has 2 seats so would get no more use, a newish 997 carrera seems (dare i say) a bit boring in comparison, maybe 997 turbo. Am sure something will crop up that catches my eye.

[8|]Very nice car and great photo's,remember seeing one
at Tonbridge in 2010,in silver.
Not many for 2012,like a rare vintage wine!
What's it like to drive compared to a normal box,
and is it any more hassle with the roof?
Cheers Dave.[8|]

It's brilliant to drive, somehow better than the sum of its parts. Sports exhaust on, second gear, sun shining, foot down, roof down - absolutely one of life's great pleasures.

Roof takes a minute to put up or down, kind of adds to the drama and not a big deal.

The weak point of the car is wind noise with the roof up at motorway outside lane speeds; the Spyder is not the weapon of choice for a long distance high speed motorway blast. If your intended use involves travelling the length of the country regularly then I would look elsewhere. On the other hand, for high days and holidays the Spyder is pretty much unbeatable.

Hope we can still say that after driving one of these! At least there will be more 981's here in months compared to Spyders in total. Checkout the video [:D]

3 month delay on getting a 981 with sports exhaust though?

Spyder will be even more unbeatable ( if that's possible [8|] ) when 981 is launched if you are looking for undiluted driving pleasure.

In years to come the 987 generation will be to Boxster what the 993 is to 911 - last of a breed. No electric steering, no start/stop function, no energy regeneration / coasting / intelligent green features etc. When they bring out the first VW four cylinder turbo diesel hybrid second generation 981, you'll know for certain your Spyder has future classic written all the way through it, like a stick of Blackpool rock [:D][:D][:D]

What was the reason given for the 3 month delay on PSE for UK market as the rest of Europe can have this from day 1?

I have also noticed that the on sale date for the 981 has been pushed back to the 5th of May.

I'm afraid I don't know but I've read it a couple of times, probably on Pistonheads. Got my invite to the launch today which is nice!

Another interesting stat [:D]

All up, the new 981 Boxster S does everything right and is extremely pleasurable to drive, but our limited time in the car left us wondering if the 981 is as engaging and involving as some 986s and 987s past, notably the two high points: the early 986 with Euro M030 suspension and last year's 987 Boxster Spyder. We'll need more time behind the wheel before coming to any conclusions, but our initial verdict is this: The Boxster has certainly matured and is more appealing than ever within its market segment.
