Stage 0 and Stage 2 ProMAX mods to 944 Turbo - long post

Hi Andrew

Glad to know that as you dont want marginal fuel pressures or injector diversity lost, particularly on a turbo`d engine.

I must bring the car back for a check on the suspension mods (and pay you for the oil you brought to Bedford Autodrome [:eek:][:eek:]) and see the new set up. I`m so busy I just dont seem to be able to spare the time these days.

Definitely need to chat re an upgrade as I`m going down the primarily used for track route, mind you I still have the bruises from SWMBO following my last expenditure with you guys. [&o][&o]

I was trying to work out what SWMBO was an acronym for - thinking it must be some special (and expensive) turbo-only modification.

Then the penny dropped... [8|]

As you've worked out, it is She Who Must Be Obbeyed (SWMBO) - I think it was the late Anton (on Titanic) who came up with that.

Anyway it was his opinion that you don't want your injector duty cycle to be over 65% as above that the injector is basically working all the time (or saturated as he termed it). I think I need to collar him to sap his knowledge.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do you know what the duty cycle is?

You need to buy something that will record it or take it to a workshop that has the kit to plug in and do it for you, either on a dyno or on the road. Lindsey Racing used to sell a narrow band AFR meter that also logged the injector duty cycle but I can't see it on their website anymore
 
Bigger injectors take more controlling at low volumes (i.e. low demand) or in other words they can overfuel on low demand as the EMS can't get the duty cycle down enough. The Motronic in the 944 is a bit picky about resistance of the injectors also so only some work with it - they are available of course. Basically you don't get any advanatge by going too big.
 
I had this very conversation with Andy at Promax the other week. The good news is for you the Promax level 2 kit contains several maps to cater for different sizes of injectors. If you get some larger injectors then you can select the suitable map via your FQS switch. Details are on your level 2 kit instructions. You'd get away with 55lb/hr but i'd be inclined to go for 65lb/hr.

You can get a set of injectors for around $400 in the states or £400 in the UK, though by the time you ship the injectors over here you've probably not saved anything. Promax can advise you. The only reason i've not done it yet is because I plan to go for the Vitesse kit.
