Steering judder when braking - help

i dont think id bother skimming the discs i had judder the day before oulton, and fitted the performance friction pads , dissapointed with judder on the way there ,but after 3 laps the pads seemed to clean the discs then they were fine all day
 
Jason, don't take any notice of the crap I spout - forget the wet and dry just blatt up the road and stomp the pedal hard.

That should clean em up a treat!

The sensible version of this post should read - an agressive bedding in procedure should clean the discs satisfactorily.[:)]
 
I had bad brake judder on my first trackday last year but have not suffered from it since. The only change I made for the second day was to get myself a torque wrench. I foolishly thought that signifcant pressure on the wheel nuts with a normal tyre wrench was enough. Using a quality torque wrench made all the difference to mine and I'm even using pagid blues (I don't go fast enough to need anything harsher).

Apologies if this seems too simplistic to be a cause in this case but thought it might be worth a mention.
 
OK just fitted some RS29's (Pagid Yellow's the replacements for the 19's which are never in stock).

We shall see how we get on at Donnington tomorrow.

Just been out to bed them in.....certainly grip - locked up the wheels every time I hit them more than gently....maybe bedding in pads in the rain is not too sensible[;)][:D]

Well they worked! By god did they work!

Just over 200 track miles at full tilt today at Donny - car was running very fast all day - best it ever has, so pleased with it.

Even finished off by doing a couple of 360's coming down the straight in last 10 mins while playing with some 968's....best laugh I've had for a while. Think tyres are officially shot now though....!

jason easy answer with mine was swapping the pads, i found standard porsche textar pads melt on the track and leave deposits on the disc causing judder. when it first started i thought discs were warped and had ninemeister fit a new pair and after the next trackday the judder returned so swopped to crossdrilled discs, same problem, finally fitted performance friction pads and problem solved. i only have standard C2 calipers but sounds like you have the same problem, sanding the discs should cure it for the road tho. i did find a website that gave good advice ill try and find a link for you

I agree Keith. My Textars were a lethal death trap (in a Scottish accent of course [:D]) today at Donington. Never had the problem before on two previous track days but total loss of braking today. My saviour Stuart (K300) had some Pagid yellows (wrenched back off Paul Follet!). Fitted by DemonFish and Bkrsy16 (Matt & Steve). I owe you some scary laps Matt anytime. Sorry got carried away bedding the pads in and tuition from Stuart ate up about 45 minutes minimum on track. Learnt a lot today about mechaincal empathy that Jason is talking about - warm up laps, cool down lap before exit but also cool down laps during session every 6 or 7 laps to get rid of the red mist, take stock of experience and allow the car to 'relax' a while.
