Steering wheel advice

Guys,

Looking for a bit of advice regards fitting an original style steering wheel. The car has always had a MOMO wheel on since I bought it, but I've always wanted to put an original wheel back on. Every so often they appear on ebay for hundreds of £s however I came across a couple of discussions suggesting the horn pad was still available from Porsche and the wheel was actually the same as a 944.

The thread suggested the part numbers were 944 347 859 03 and 944 347 859 05 with a horn symbol on the horn pad and 944 347 084 09 (10verl) for the wheel. I've acquired both parts now, the wheel from ebay and the pad from Porsche but when I put them together the RS on the horn pad is upside down!? I think I've put the wheel on correctly, and it appears to fit nicely so no problems there but when I compare the "RS" horn pad with the "Porsche" horn pad that came with the wheel you'll see that when you put them side by side the logos are opposite ways around. See pic below.

So my question is have I ended up with a rogue horn pad that has been put together the wrong way round or have I bought the wrong items?? I expect one or two of you have gone down a similar route so interested to hear any comments.

Thanks,
Jon

Like Charles said , the 'RS' pad is not right....its upside down.....surprised that you say it was from Porsche. Australian ?

Ha, ha you'd think so.
I'll put a call into Porsche mid Sussex tomorrow, sounds like it skipped quality control! It was a lot of money as well for a little bit of leather with 3 springs on the back!
Thanks for your help guys.
Jon

Actually - if you are doing lots of opposite lock it would be up the right way..................[:D]

As others have said, the 964RS horn pad is wider at the top than the bottom. When you flip it around there's a single 'spring' at the top and two at the bottom. The part numbers and 'GERMANY' actually read upside down.

The 2x part numbers on the reverse of the original horn pad are: 944 347 859 03 and 944 347 859 05 ᐅ (ᐅ = a horn symbol)

The original 964RS horn pad doesn't have a horn icon below the RS logo as in your photo.

£212 []

So if I've got this right, not only have Porsche supplied me with an upside down part, it also has a horn symbol on the front of it that shouldn't be there!!! Not impressed.

Sounds like exactly the same part number though, so am v confused! I'll be putting the MOMO wheel back on at this rate...

yes, my original wheel is the box of original parts that are no longer on the car...... That said I understand why you are doing it, and having decided to put it back correctly, you should make sure its 100% right. Well worth the effort.

Another thing to be aware of is there are two different types of steering wheel for the RS. One is the regular wheel, the other has a 20-25mm metal hub extension which was an option when ordering the car.

I'm lucky to have both with original RS horn pads. [:)]

Yes this is just a regular wheel, it fits fine.

2 wheels for 1 car, that's a bit greedy [:D]

Perhaps you could sell me another car to go with my wheel? [:D]

A black car to complement the white you already have. [:D] Alternatively might be asking if you'd sell the spare wheel at this rate!! [8|] After all it must be gathering dust....
Spoke to the dealer this morning and he thinks I've bought the wrong wheel, that a 944 wheel isn't right for the 964RS.
I've sent him some pics and he was to contact Porsche about it.

Jon - that Momo wheel is lovely, you should keep it! I'm sorry the car's wheel is now in France somewhere.

I always thought the wheel was a 928 part but I am sure the boffins will be along to confirm.

I still have the jack for your car if you ever want it!

Regards

Hi Feroz,

Yes the Momo wheel is nice, and I will definitely hang onto it [:)]

Wish I'd bought the wheel to my car when you sold it a few years back, doh []

Re the jack, yes would love to reunite it with the car, lets try and make paths cross one of these days!
