Steering Wheel

It feels great but I'm not over keen on the way the leather laps over at the spokes. The rubber gaitered boss conversion also looks a bit "after market" as well.
Whilst I wouldn't swap back, and I like the feel of the wheel, I think there are other wheels without a Porsche badge (original or not) that are of higher quality for less.

If it's just the leather rim that is looking a bit tired there is a lot you can do to bring it back to life. I've got a burgundy interior, but the rim of my wheel was black when I got the car, covered in years of grime and filth. A lot of elbow grease and some Autoglym leather cleaner later had it all clean again, but the leather was very dry, and worn to almost white in places like the edge of the spokes and rim. I found that a good coating of, wait for it....... shoe polish worked a treat. I got some ox blood colour polish, but I hear black is readliy avalible too, and it is an almost perfect colour match. It re-dyed all of the worn areas and made the leather a lot more supple, it looks a lot better, and for 37p I think has to be about the cheapest fix ever. The colour doesn't come back off on you hands and seems to last a long time. I've just redone it again, but that wasn't because it had gone back to how it was, just I felt it needed a clean. It's definitely a lot quicker and easier than replacing the leather (which you can do) or exchanging it for a reconditioned one.
Another thing that was (is ) letting my steering wheel down was a lot of loose or missing stitching. I have restitched the whole top half of my wheel by hand, and again it isn't that hard, you just need some time (well a lot of time) and patience. it made such a difference, the leather was loose, you could peel it away around the top where there was no stitching at all, now it almost feels like new. Just have to finish the rest of it when I can find the time!

if you are interested i will sell you my 10month old CS wheel for £250 (it cost a lot more) I bought it new from Porschepart and it's a genuine Porsche wheel. It's looks like the wheel in the photo at the top of this thread but it doesn't ahve a porsche badge, the logo is embossed into the leather, and most importantly the wheel covering itself is one piece of leather - there are no joins on the spoke.

Matt
(sorry if this should have been in classifieds, mod?)

Strikes me as the best place to put the posting is with the thread so I haven't got an issue with that.
£250 isn't a bad price at all IMHO. If I could get £150 for mine, (as per picture at the top) I might have be tempted myself. On the other hand, I do like my current steering wheel and there are other more pressing things that I could spend £100 on. [8|]

Whilst we're on the topic, I've got the original black wheel in my garage if anyone's interested. It's in excellent condition.
