steering wheel

hi, im after a steering wheel for my 92/944. which fit , i would like a sporty wheel instead of the ugly std thing..will these fit?

Porsche 911S 08/1974 onwards

911 SC/911 Turbo

912S 1972 onwards

928 upto 1988

Carrera 1974 to 1993

924; 944.1; 944.2; 968 & 964 all use the same diameter spline (Super Beetle). 912 - 911 (to 1989) & 928 all use the same diameter spline (early Beetle). The part number for the wheels will be indentical for 924-derived cars, but the separate horn contact ring differs between early style and late style dashboard cars. Thisll need to be changed if youre fitting a late 944 wheel to a 924 or vice versa. Some aftermarket steering bosses will fit early and late cars (these will use the original horn contact ring which you swap over), whilst others are specific. Simon
 
put an RS wheel on my 944 turbo as the standard had the stitching rotting and retrimming it was a fortune. not cheap at around 180 from porscheshop - http://www.porscheshop.co.uk/acatalog/non_air_bag_steering_wheels_porsche_momo.html but fits perfectly and a hugely better wheel imho. took about 30 minutes to change it not having done it before and being careful not to damage anything - its a 10 minute job when you know how to do it
 
RS wheel is good looking - I have one on mine. Only complaint is that the rim is not as chunky as the original wheel. In hindsight I'd prefer the Club Sport. Try OPC for a price first though. Might not be as expensive as you'd think. Avoid any 'Club Sports' with a coloured badge - as far as I have seen they will be an aftermarket wheel with a tacky badge stuck on (usually not too straight either) and can be just as expensive.
 
Yes, original parts have an embossed crest. Plain centres or coloured badges indicate an aftermarket part (many will be made by the OEM though).
 
I have a momo wheel on mine which is great as it is slightly smaller than standard and has a nice feel. My only issue is that it is so worn the leather is porous as far as nasty sweaty, sticky gunk is concerned, so every week or so I have to take a load of leather wipes and clean it otherwise it gets soooo sticky. does anyone know what I can do to the leather to restore it? Or do I just have to buy a replacement wheel? (I have the standard one but am loathe to fit it)
 
Boot polish and scuff repair can do a certain amount, but youll end up having to bite the bullet and buy a replacement.
 
I had one of the OEM replica wheels on my 944 and it was a massive improvement:

Yes it had a stick on badge, but having compared it to a genuine Clubsport wheel, there's nothing to separate them in terms of build quality, stitching etc. Only the badge lets it down, but then it was sold by the OEM manufacturer and not Porsche. I second the choice of the Prototipo, I've had mine fitted for 14 months (6k miles) and it's a classic wheel design that has been on countless historic racers including many Porsche.

No - there is a "-1984" boss, and a "1985+" boss for the Momo wheels. I believe only the latter have the "tang" at the back required to cancel the indicators. Worth finding out the part number as it is common to some other VWs ~ I got mine 2nd hand on ebay and it wasn't being sold as a 944S2 boss.
 
Early and late steering wheels are identical: its only the horn contact/indicator cancel that differs. Bosses which use the original horn ring will fit both early and late cars (Mountney for example, but they MUST have the ring attached). Momo bosses include a built in horn ring so they are model specific: series one (1982-1985); and series two (1986-1995). The 944 S2 is no different to a 944 series two: it IS a series two 944, but not all series two 944s are S2s.
