In my recently purchased 964 I have an 'expensive' and unnecessarily 'fancy' Becker Indianapolis Pro 7950 connected through an 'old ?' Kenwood Equalizer to an unknown speaker setup. The head unit is in perfect condition, but there is almost no sound to the front speakers, whilst the rears are 'good'. And yes, I have tried the front rear fade control :)

I also have an iPhone 3GS with TomTom windscreen mount that I use as my Sat Nav, and my company will supply a Parrot Bluetooth for my Blackberry - so I don't need the Becker Tel / NAVI functions.

I am therefore considering selling the Becker unit and investigating the speakers and then looking at my audio options.

I am not an audiophile but do want to be able to listen to the radio on a journey, make hands free voice recognition (Parrot) calls and stream music from the iPhone (whilst also using it as a Sat Nav so the iPod base connector is not available and bluetooth is in use connecting it to the windscreen mount speaker / GPS enhancer).

I have seen that Parrot Bluetooth now comes integrated in to some head units, but my main query is on the use of the iPhone. if it is being used as a Sat Nav and the bluetooth connection is being used to connect to the GPS receiver, am I right in that it cannot at the same time connect to a second bluetooth device to stream music to it ?

What speakers should I find in the 964 if they are original, and how do I remove the grills. Will I have an amplifier or wiring for one, as I cannot make out the Kenwood setup - looks like a single RCA input and RCA speaker cables - it is under the front carpet !

Anyone here got any audio fitting help and support on setup ?

Ian

the beckers are some of the best out there & look perfect in a 911 dash ... also very much sought after by the 993 boys ... I've just fitted an older becker to my 993 & the sound quality is such a step up over the sony that was previously fitted . The becker you have is a really nice unit which includes Blue tooth. I also think you might be able to add an ipod connector too. http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:RqgkAyyOInUJ:www.mybecker.com/www_root/documents/Flyer_7950_IndianapolisPro_GB_0408.pdf+Becker+Indianapolis+Pro+7950+bluetooth&hl=en&gl=uk&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEEShZCstq9mmIEBQtBIrLUqQQHpsVUgeVOgyAM4KfvpLDsuBYZikOCf5Yx67Mdxr2nZBGkZeKw-_zA0eFspeKySLaWRD4i1zDi2gbQEgSxntbcd4pELmMVzyJaxUE-6RrblJzvahh&sig=AHIEtbSC__8wgd2RLf_QOBCDWUq98MxvDw I'd keep the Becker & junk the equilizer & speakers. Invest in some decent speakers & you'll have a really nice set up without adding the weight of amps , subs etc.

Steve - nice article - thanks. James, I agree re: the look and feel of the Becker. However, the main issue I have is the bluetooth phone operation, which Becker comment on as :- - number has to be keyed to call ---- or something like that. My unit connects to my phone and allows me to answer it, but it just displays the number and not the caller name etc. The iPod connector I have seen, but I use my iPhone in the TomTom dock as a SatNav and that uses the native connector - so I would have to buy a cheap iPod to play music from - not a problem. The real problem is the lack of true Voice Command Mobile Communication with the Blackberry - that is why I considered a head unit with integrated Parrot. If someone has a Becker and a Unit that allows the Bluetooth integration to have true telephone voice activation like Parrot - please tell me as yes I would like to keep the head unit and get new speakers. Let us know what you think of it David as I'm considering it too for the 964. The installation charge looks a bit steep but probably worth having them do it properly and avoid all the head scratching moments when I can't get it to work.

Let me know if you are still thinking of selling the Becker as i'm looking for one at the moment. Cheers

Would love to hear some reviews of the classic system and how it integrates with an iPhone....looks great in the brochure

I like the look of the classic system, although the screen is rather small, I've not even looked at what is in mine only that it's a radio and cassette and will look to upgrade to a radio / CD with a Ipod conector in one form or another, but the mirrors are first on the list. Steve

Decided to do a could of odd jobs as I finally had enough snow moved to get to the car. Refitted the RH Shark Fin after it's repair by Tuthills, and moved the driver seat back an inch thanks to the factory mount options. Whilst I was moving the seat position I discovered this jungle - Carreraboy was right, it really is a jungle in there. Under the driver seat there are two amps (one factory ?) and countless loose wires - an awful mess.

Here is the Kenwood graphic equaliser - it has power to it but goodness knows what it is connected to :-

And today whilst putting the jack and space saver back, I found another large Kenwood Amp under the carpeting and fixed to the bulkhead upright - what a collection. All of this will be pulled out and then a new unit will go in. Carreraboy - did you find a suitable unit for your project ? Ian

OK - how do I get my Photobucket images to appear here - I inserted what I thought to be the correct link in the above post ? Ian

I've fixed it for you Ian. For some reason pasting the IMG tag doesn't work on this forum. Instead you have to copy the direct link on your photobucket picture and then click the picture icon when writing a message and then paste the direct link into the pop up window.

Hey Guys, I'm having an audio install next month along with a carpet retrim (C&N Customs). Currentlly I have the following ready to go in: Infinty kappa 4- 4 channel Amp Infinity Kappa 462.9cfp plate speakers (rear) Infinity Kappa 60.9CS speakers (front) However, I'm struggling to find a head unit that suits (Bar paying £500 for the Porsche classic, which is little too expensive IMO) My current choice is the clarion FZ709E as I like the simple interface and aesthetics. Is it possible to see a few photographs of other members head units to give me an idea of what other 964 owners have? Carrera Boy and Ian, have you found decent units yet? Thanks Guys [:D] (I have no affiliation with any of the aforementioned products or companies)

No problem, I will ask the installers to take photos and see if I can do a decent write up. The only problem is I ordered my equipment from the U.S so its likely to be mid - end of Feb.

The jungle grows. I cleaned out the interior and found another amplifier - yes I have FOUR amplifiers. Two found under the driver seat, one in the luggage compartment and now one under the passenger seat. This on is an Alpine 3503 which may be the original - who can advise on the original location and model for the 964 in 1992 ?

Des - what head unit did you source in the end ? Ian
