Stereo - Upgraded

I have now pulled my head unit and microphone / GPS receiver and have sold it on........so any updates on the installs due above ? Need to now crack on and find a new head unit, amplifier (if required) and front speakers (unless they are OK and just the wiring was faulty - to be determined). ian

If you`re after anything remotely decent your`ll need an amp in your line up. Ideally you should be looking at something like a JL XD 4 channel amp, some quality 6.5" components which can run on two of the channels. Bridged the other 2 channels and use them to power a nice little 8" sub. That should cost about £500-£700. get a head unit for a couple of hundred and then your'll have a nice set up.

ORIGINAL: da_gleadless Hey Guys, I'm having an audio install next month along with a carpet retrim (C&N Customs). Currentlly I have the following ready to go in:
&N Customs
Has the carpet been fitted? Keen to see some pics if you have any and find out our much they charged to fit and where your bought the carpet set from.

Hey Guys, Update.... I decided not to change my stereo until I can afford the Porsche classic, as it does everything I want it to. I dropped my car off at C & N who thought the carpets were fine, so they dried out the car in the oven, cleaned and refitted the carpets and replaced knackered soundproofing with dynamat... which is good as it saved me some cash until its a worthwhile job. The amp and speakers have been installed, but the car is off for a service and check up at Bob Watson next door and I dont pick it up til the 25th! C & N upload photos to their website during the work so you can see progress and provide you with login details (PM me if you would like to see the photos and il give you my login), followed by all the photos provided on memory stick on completion! I ordered all my equipment from the US at audio-club-online via ebay which still worked out cheaper than UK prices with international shipping, and it came in 3 days! Its worth adding that I needed some additional connectors for my stereo and amp along with sound deadening-as per invoice: Sound deadening - £50 connect amp kit - £60 connect 2 ch RCA cable - £28 4 ch universal DEM interface - £23 I'll do a full write up with photos after I have the car but hope this suffices for now[:)] cant wait to pick it up[:)]

Quick update on progress to date. I removed the four (yes four) amps, equaliser and a mile of old wiring, and purchased an Alpine 103BT from Ebay, complete with Full Speed iPod cable. I managed to identify the original red/yellow/black wires from the loom that I re-connected to the original ISO Connector, and that goes directly in to the Alpine ISO connector - so we have power ! I then purchased an ISO Speaker connector with 8 open ended wires from Maplins and a pack of bullet connectors (male and female) - I crimped the bullet connectors to the open ends, and then plugged these in to the eight original speaker cables on the original loom (they had previously been converted to bullet connectors before). So I now have an original Alpine connector that splits to two ISO connectors for power and speakers. These are then connected to an ISO connector for the power on the loom, and another ISO connector on the loom for speakers. Turn on, insert CD and great sound from the rear and cra**y sound from the front right - nothing from the front left. Much as expected. So it looks like I need new door speakers, and a repair to the coaxial aerial cable, but progress is being made. Any suggestions of 5.25 inch component speakers for the doors ? Photos to follow. Ian

I'm holding off on my review of the Infinity Kappa equipment I had installed. I'm getting some interference so something is not quite right and so the car is going back at the end of the month to be checked out. Sorry for the delay[&:]

Spent most of today getting the install completed. I fixed the cage in to the dash and then slotted the CDE-103BT unit home. There are a lot of wires to tidy and tie behind.

No sound from the front left speaker and only the tweeter on the front right. Nothing for it but to remove the door pocket and get in behind the door panel, to find on the left that the power leads were not connected !

On the right it was just a case of a loose connection to the speaker. Very pleased with the install, although the aerial is a bodge as it had previously been cut and my temporary solder fix will not last too long I fear. I have also used Ebay to source a correct Alpine microphone for the dash and an old 4GB iPod Nano to leave in the glovebox as I already have the iPod Full Speed cable. Ian
