Stupidly Blinded By The Porsche Brand

Berty987, What an excellent post, well constructed and thought out, I agree Porsche should be asked for a comment, and perhaps an indication of how Porsche will receive these failures to reassure the public that Porsche will do the right thing

Porsche's financial figures, the ownership experiences of the majority of people on this forum and the Club membership as whole would suggest otherwise.

As posted many times the Club approached Porsche UK with regard to the RMS issue. Myself, Nic Doczi, the Chairman and the erstwhile Communications Director even attended a meeting with Porsche Cars UK, all to no avail.

I don't believe that the intermediate shaft failure (for whatever reason) is common. If it were then it's a bit of a paradox that the vast majority of owners in this club have uncommon, m96 engined cars, that have the same engine in them as when they left the factory.

I think several is a more fitting adjective to associate with the intermediate shaft failure.

"an amount that is not exact but is fewer than many"

My own experience of Porsche reliability has been excellent, and that is over 24 years of 10 air-cooled, and 8 water-cooled models (from 356 to 997).

It is important to remember is that Porsche build high performance sports cars, that tend to get used and treated like everyday family cars.

No other sports car manufacturer (Lotus, TVR, Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, etc, etc,) can match Porsche's achievement.

But the real proof is in the price of the extended warranty.

The cost of only £895 (out of which Porsche and the underwriter will be making a profit) is the best evidence that the overall number of major claims is prety small. One RMS replacement would be covered by that figure.Look at the extended warranty costs and claims limits from other mainstream manufacturers, such as Land Rover and BMW. And Porsche don't exclude track day use.

"ONLY" £895 !!! that is a tidy sum to me my friend. And is approx £300 more than insuring my whole car for a year, worth circa 40k and could suffer any form of major incident and total loss? That sort of suggests something to me!

OK. Then find a manufacturer, comparable with Porsche, that offers an extended warranty, with no upper limits, and including track use, for less money.

Suggests to me that Porsche Cars GB and OPC are both making a tidy profit on top of the actual cost to them for the insurance policy in the first place [;)]

Remember also that Porsche have the highest profit margin per vehicle than any other manufacturer - hence they can reduce the insurance charge as they already have a built in high profit margin !
