Surely some1 has seen the 944 with nitrous on Flea Bay ?

I'm not sure if Brett achieved 1000bhp (I'm sure he would claim he did) but someone posted a few months ago that he got to 200 mph. Again, who knows.

He was sure he's reached 200MPH according to his PH thread (at least, someone else posting for him as he's banned there as well)!

Sounded as if braking was an issue, losing stability in an old car at that speed must be fairly hairy....[]

My comments over deciding what bhp NOS add on is what my concern was MGBV8

I accept there is a place and many get happy use of it.

and if I was certain I could get away with it on mine I would not reject it. but your analogy over porting a head and expert advice is hard to understand

head porters aim for a non restrictive airflow cfm through put to suit rpm breathing of engine. This can be pretty accurately calculated and have done it myself.

but determining what stress an engine can take is much more difficult and something I have no experience of calculating

choosing an upgrade is therefore inherent with risk.

Getting a badly ported head will simply result in a poor breathing engine and loss of torque/power.

I hope you see my comments as fair and not antagonistic.

As I have said here I would not reject it.

i.e. if a chap is running a kit on an engine just like mine with no problems is sufficient for me

I have no knowledge or expertise in these tecnical discussions of course but having looked and read all of this and about nos elsewhere ( it's got me nosey now) , I have to say I am wondering if NOS on an S2 or 968 would make quite an interesting project for someone who wants ' an unusual S2 or 968 ' . I suppose it's like all things ,dont be greedy use a low ammount and enjoy the car without being silly ?.

The appeal has to be blowing someone away who thinks "I'll leave that old 80's car standing" doesnt it. Not what I'd be up to but I know that has real appeal for folk.

I would only be interested in occasionally taking it to a drag strip for fun days out with another club I'm involved in if it were me , some of them have some very powerfull cars that go on Avon or Santapod [:D]

I remember an early 5th Gear dong something on this. They were touting the benefits of NOS as it is relatively an insurance friendly mod. They demonstrated it by installing to a bog standard GolfMK3 diesel on the basis Diesel engines are stronger than petrol engines. They were touting the benefits as mainly being beneficial for overtaking where you need a short power boost. Maybe the SMax could do with a 50bhp shot or two?!

But I agree - this would be a great project for an N/A 944 - or even a turbo as an exercise to use NOS to overcome turbo boost and turn it off once boost comes in.

.. or even a turbo as an exercise to use NOS to overcome turbo boost and turn it off once boost comes in.

Another alternative is to build an air hybrid system. The principles and research on it goes back to the 70's some good papers available off the net. The principle is really simple you have a store of air at pressure, typically say bleed off from when on boost that is ready to inject into the front end of the turbo when you need it. Its the sort of stuff that is getting fashionable again for OEMs in these lean green times when small powerful engines are the way ahead.

Are you referring to the 928 Brett, PC Healthcare Computers guy?

No, the other 928 Brett with the 1000 BHP Wizards of Nox car. [:D][:D][:D][:D]

Yep, that's the same Brett. [:)]

I see - that puts an interesting angle on an old story then! (for me)

Well at least my original post succeeded in starting an interesting discussion, thats what its all about [;)]
