Suspension Set up Centre Gravity/De-CAT

ORIGINAL: Black80XSA

I remember when Paul took his 964 to Chris with new suspension to fit they actually raised the ride height from its previous settings. All depends what you are starting with, and i'm sure chirs will balance your requirements of lower ride height to hi selection of optimum configurations.

Yes, he did as it had been set up just below RS settings. And it's a targa, so just didn't work! Still handles great even with worn out rear shocks, which will get changed if I keep decide to keep the car.

Literally just spoke to Chris. Car booked in for early september. We mentioned RS ride height plus 10mm which sounded ideal. Im just waiting on estimate now. Car book into JZM for Engine Chip at the end of August

Did you speak to him about GT2 Evo tie rods too?!? [;)]

Just removed my Bischoff De-cat pipes and re-fitted the cat converter. The de cats with RSR's are just too loud and annoying. Now the car has a nice tone, Sounds air cooled again. not seen too much loss in driveability with the cat re-fitted, possible extra noise with de cats made you feel you were going faster.
100 cell cat would probably be the best way to go.

No what they gonna do for me??

The standard Tie Rods have a rubber sleeve, which is prone to wearing and rob the steering of some feel.

The GT2 Evo tie rods don't have this rubber sleeve, which tightens up the steering and the feel.

IIRC, Chris has engineered some of his own GT2 tie rods.

There's a cut away picture and some detail on the GT2 tie rods here:

Sorry to hijack the thread, P27549, i went RSR with std exhaust then 100 cell cats with RSR and 100 cell cats with cargraphic NGT and am now on decat and STD boxes, by far and away the best sound and no drone or anything (benefit of std boxes) back to the thread, David very interested if Chris has GT2 tie rods can you let us know on this thread, thanks. John

Yes will do John although my car not booked in till 18th of sep but will
email him today and let u know. The route I've decided to go down is full bilstein set up with geometry work and JZM engine chip to give extra mid range. Most effective cost option from what I can work out. I already have motorsound airbox that will compliment the JZM chip.

The short answer is they do do the "cup tie rods" if this is what u are after john. Im yet to find out the cost thou and also i dont know what difference that will make for me to all the work im having done already with the bilstein set up

As stated by Jackal on his site:

The RS tie rods are what they are. The motosport tie rods were fitted to the 993 GT2 EVO only but you can get them directly from porsche Motorsport (your local OPC will have to call the motorsport division). Some dealers seem to be able to order them on their own (about 80 pounds each) but then other dealers quoted me for the ball joint and actual tie rod end and said they couldn't be separated so best to do some digging around. I discovered just a few people who have fitted these (one chap on pistonheads and a couple over in the States) and all of them said that the steering is improved with greater feedback especially round the straight ahead. Once 993 RS owner stated that it made the steering as good as his 964RS. There are are some compromises though in the form of the steering jiggling around more especially on the motorway so if comfort and a daily driver is your priority then think long and hard first.

Given all my other mods (am almost at the bottom of the slope), RS wishbones, RS a/r bars, PSS9's GT2 rear subframe mounts, RS gearbox and engine mounts, rear seat removal, carbon fibre door inners, recaro SPG's front strut brace, rear harness bar, RS aluminium bonnet, 18" wheels, RS brakes, I think the comfort factor is not #1 priority (went awhile ago ;-) )

David, have you looked at Wayne Schofield, chip wizards, for ~ £500 you get a full tailored remap for your car and wayne is legendary, will be far far better than any std chip.

Wayne is the porsche engine management version of chris at centre gravity.........

I had heard of chip wizards but was reliably informed that 10-12 hp is the max anyone can get extra from a remap despite all the claims of huge hp increases so I thought JZM being local to me wud make sense. I'll give Wayne a call and see what he recons cheers

Have taken my time to add to this thread as i wanted to get used to the new setup before i commented on the work done but having now had the car back for a month and done a track afternoon in that time i feel im able to give an honest appraisal of the changes.
Firstly for those that have never met Chris Franklin he SERIOUSLY knows his onions and at all times you know your in the safest of hands.
What Chris immediately tries to establish is how and why u use your car and then aims to give u the best of all worlds to suit your needs. In my case he has certainly achieved this. My suspension was 15yrs old and had covered 71k miles and having switched from a 997s the handling just didnt cut the mustard.
What i now have is a 911 that handles like it should with no tyre roll in corners, impecable handling, real feedback and a car that smooths out the bumps in the road to the point ive practically forgotten they even excisted. The car now sits 10mm above RS rideheight so also looks the part but not silly and i loe it again to look at.
The track day at brands was a real test and i spent most of the afternoon on shot tyres but i had plenty of warning when the levels of grip were at their most stretched and in fairness i only nearly lost it when someone dumped a ton of oil between druids and bottom bend!
In short the difference in ALL aspects are sensational and when u consider u are getting Chris"s skill thrown in the slighlty extra is WELL worth it. If u want a 911 of the old School that handles like one of the new school then this is the upgrade to sort.
I had all new dampers and springs and some odds and ends and Chris set her up to perfection and also demonstrates how accurate his work is in comparrisson to an OPC.
Go speak to him, you wont be dissapointed. Hope this helps other cheers
