Suspension upgrade

Got the RS on the ramps today for a visual inspection, glad to say the solid sub frame mounts are fitted,
the front o/s bilstein has some play so both fronts are being replaced, as are all the disc brakes and ditching
the yellow squeeling pagids for standard pads, rear n/s track control arm has play so this is being replaced
and so are the steering inner ball joint bushes, then a geometry and corner weight set up, plus a service
and mechanical tappets will need setting, the joys of motoring.

Sorry to be thick, but are we talking about fitting solid bushes here?

Go easy on those modified 996 GT3 RSs Colin. [;)]

The sitff axle kit is a set of solid rear subframe bushes which also revise the rear upright angles - a modification first seen on the factory 993GT2 Evo road cars - all the moving links are left alone so you still have compliance, just not in the subframe whose job it is to point the rear of the car in the right direction which it cannot do if it is moving under load.

As for the GT3 RS's, they just get what they deserve and no more.....

Have you looked over the service records, I am seeing the guy who previously seviced it this week, he is quite fond of the GT2 subframe mounts, I can ask him if he remembers fitting them.

That's a lot of work there Steve! Did you get the remap done at the end?

The solid mounts were fitted by the previous owner so no work required there, the rest of the jobs will be
scheduled for July, the front Bilsteins are reasonable at £139 each from Porsche, guess the discs will be
costly at £425 for the full set, there are cheaper on the market but best to stick with original equipment.
Re map required when all this lot is out of the way, thinking of taking the cup mufflers off now and
fitting some cargraphic mufflers which are quieter, Phil McGovern in Dubai is after the cup mufflers
for his speed yellow 993 rs.

Steve, are you keeping the car now after the work, enjoying it through the show season?
More like monsoon season, went through Sheffield last Friday, last time I saw rain like that was in the Everglades !!
must admit it would be hard to replace it even if a clubsport turned up, actually I do know of an 8000 mile 993 rs
clubsport that will become available but keeping it under wraps for the moment, so just gonna enjoy the summer
with it for the time being, roll on Silverstone.

Car you fed up with the noise already? The 100 cell cat + CG mufflers are a real good combo, sounds great from inside the car, but not too loud from the outside. No trouble with any trackday noise test so far. Just need to get a re-map at some point to make the most of it.

£139 for a Bilstein shock?!?! that's not as bad as I thought, no point for a re-cond then. How can you tell it needs changing? Mine has only done @ 40k miles or so but it is over 10 yrs old. I'll prob do the GT2 mount and whatever there is to up grade when the shocks need changing.

Hi Mick, normally the Bilsteins would be ok at around 40,000 miles, however on rocking the front wheel there was
slight play evident, further checks I found it was the Bilstein rod moving in its body from side to side, with no play
evident on the opposite side which led me to believe there was an issue with the o/s bilstein.
The cup mufflers are sounding superb but border line on the noise limits, so will have to play safe with the cg mufflers,
the one's I got for you are TUV approved, I am going for the export mufflers that are slightly louder but should be
with in the noise police limits.[:)]
