A quick update with things I've learned or worked out (bear in mind this is for a 718 and app / website functionality varies widely if you have a different model).
1. Favourites set in the app are only stored locally on the device running the app. They do not get synced to a central server anywhere nor can you send them directly to the car (see 2).
2. The device running the app shares the favourites with the PCM when it is connected to the car via bluetooth and possibly wifi - they appear in the "App POI" list. This does not work when Apple CarPlay is being used as the wireless connections to the car drop. The app needs to be open on your device for this to work. Also the "App POI" list disappears again when your device disconnects. Note the connection limitation also applies to the Calendar and Amazon music PCM apps.
3. It is not possible to set favourites in the MyPorsche web page. The only functions you get for the 718 on the web page are related to purchasing connect services or booking a service. This might change in the future if Porsche can be bothered to invest some time and effort.
4. Most functions are only available in the app - geofencing, speed alerts, PVTS options (service mode, transport mode and disabled), honk horn, vehicle location, favourite locations, tyre pressures, fuel level, range, service due in miles and date, vehicle status (locked, closed, details of what is open etc). It also unhelpfully tells me the location of the nearest charging point.
5. The Portal POI option in the Nav is useless as there is no way to add anything to this.
Navigation via CarPlay just works and it has a bunch of other stuff that the PCM doesn't do. If only they extended the display to the Globe life would be peachy.
I knew the PCM wasn't the greatest before I bought the car but to be fair it's not that bad, just let down by some pretty poor back office infrastructure and what feels like knobbled functionality (for example, lack of safety camera alerts which you could add but that function has now been removed).
