OT (sorry)

They never bothered with a Carrera, RS or Club Sport version; it was quick enough as it was.

Actually there seems to have been some kind of "Club Sport" version, although Porsche did not bother calling it as such.
These cars featured the M637 option code in addition to the M030, which consisted of convex mirrors and a very nice "CS Club Sport" sticker on the front left fender, à la 928 CS.
I bought one of these stickers and have made done a couple of copies, if some here want to know more about it please let me know.

In fact it could be argued the 250 Turbo was a sport version It was probably closer to a Turbo cup racer than say a GT3 is to a supercup car - the marketing department just hadn't caught up with the race engineers back then.

Well, a 944 turbo Cup is actually a real racer with minimal soundproofing, nearly impossible to drive on the open road because of incredibly stiff shock absorbers/suspension set up. There is a full Matter anti-roll cage and specific Recaro bucket seats, brake repartitor on later cars.
After each drive it is advisable to count the bolts to make sure none is missing - no kidding here.
The French trophy-only tubo Cup race cars (Snobeck 300 hp kit) are faster than a 968 turbo S
In the opening race of the 1990 trophy at Le mans they reached 300 kph in the Hunaudières straight, with stock gearing !

My point is that when compared to a 944 turbo Cup, a stock 250hp 944 turbo is basically a lardy grand tourer.
