The PCM upgrade offer you cannot refuse

After many years paying through the nose for PCM software upgrades, I was delighted to see an offer in the most recent edition of Porsche Post for the latest upgrade priced at just £150 including VAT and installation. I called my OPC and ordered one, enquiring about my PCGB discount. Sorry no, was the reply, because the upgrade is a special offer priced at a fraction of the full price and includes two hours (yes, really, two hours) labour to install it. It incorporates seven digit post code destinations, new split screen displays and a host of other improvements, according to the Parts specialist.

I wonder if recent bad press about the '£500 upgrade needed to bring your shiny new Porsche up to spec' with a £100 satnav device has shamed Porsche GB into a price cut. As previous upgrades have been priced at over £400 plus £140 per hour installation at an OPC, this has to be a bargain.

Has anyone had the upgrade installed, and if so does it measure up?

Hi Brian there is some talk of this in the 991 area: Try here http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=796914

yes had it done ages ago the full post code works and the maps are changed , but you cannot put a house number in :-(

I followed your link to the 991 forum and I was pleased to find they all liked the new version - thanks Nick. Why were the 991 owners informed but not the 981s? I guess we are expected to know our place!

I just had mine done today and you can enter a house number. It's not as straight forward as a Tom Tom n that it doesn't ask or he house number after you've input he postcode, but if you edit the details, you can then click "House No" enter one. Other than the full 7 digit postcode option and now being asked which one of three routes I'd like to pick, (from a map so small it's more a guess than an informed decision), I can't see any difference. My street, which was built about 12 months ago, is still not on the map.

http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=807800&mpage=1&key=&#807800 A number of 997 owners have had it done too.[;)] Maybe it's a 911 thing then......[:D] And yes, you can put in house numbers but not as user friendly as, say, a Tom Tom

I have an integrated Tomtom system in my Renault Trafic van and it is superb. It is the same as the high end Tomtoms which you can buy with Live HD traffic and speed cameras etc etc. I don't know why more manufacturers don't use it. Although there was a guy on Planet-9 that grafted a ipad mini into the radio space which looked interesting !

Hi Brian I was informed of this update last weekend by Porsche PC and the details will be in March Porsche Post. Regards Tracy

Tracy for not wanting to repeat the info, it was covered in the Jan 2014 PP by the 991 guys and there is a full page advent in Feb's PP. Save your lineage for the 'Parish News' that the 'Editor at Large' loves [;)]

Make that 3 adverts in the Feb PP!

Don't see how it lets you put a house number in after playing with it today. Not that I ever use nav, so don't care that much.

Just been out to try it. Put in postcode, it then showed the town, road on the left side with the other options "Street/No", "Start navigation" etc on the right. Selecting "Street/No" takes you to the keyboard page. Hit first letter of the street name and the rest appeared. Selected that and then the house number page came up. I don't think the database is that comprehensive though as I have tried other postcodes and not all of the house numbers for that postcode are available. However, as you never use sat nav that will be of little interest, I guess![;)]

No secret particularly, I was told that Porsche GB were going to do some sort of marketing blitz to inform owners of qualifying models. I had my Cayenne done as well.

so you have to type the whole post code in then edit the whole address and re add the street again that's the point I tuned the thing back off :) as I was NOT going to re add the street. then after you reenter the street you may or may not be able to put a number in lol it's laughable.

But you can enter a house number.......eventually[&:] So if you were going to a place for the first time how would you go about it? Or would you not bother going?[:)] It is a pretty feeble compared to other systems out there though.

ORIGINAL: Geoff997 I would like some info on how to use ALL the new functions without endless button pressing and guessing.
What, you expect instructions for £150 sir???
