The reality of a cheap 944S2

And there is a story in that as well, sales guy at GSF was a little bemused when David bought his just a few days after I bought mine.
"Never sell many of these and sold 2 in the last week", to which David replied " yeah I know the guy who bought the other one" lol

As for the cost of running a '44, its way down on what it was years ago and these cars are now increasingly in the hands of home mechanics willing to do more and more.
I cut my teeth mechanically on 24 n/a and 24S so there's very little I won't do on them now, bar welding got a mate who is much better than me and cheap [;)]

If you have the space and time dropping a gearbox to replace a clutch isn't a massive under taking, I know because in the snow of Dec 2009 I dropped an auto box on a 924S and replaced the front damper in 2 nights and a Saturday, to many people around who will still try to scare you into believing you can't do it, its 20 year old technology not some electrical nightmare like 996, tinker and enjoy [:D]

Heartily agree with this sentiment. I have yet to do a job on my S2 which is difficult. Some are big, and long (changing the clutch, for instance) but none of them have been hard. A 10mm, 13mm and 17mm spanner will have most of the car apart, and access is generally pretty easy.
