The ultimate....

Looking forward to the results of the research!

Great cars all of them and the Carrera GT is the model for the Corgi "944"

Hope you have a good and quick recovery.

Mike

I have a Corgi '944', but it is really a 924 Le Mans, which was also referred to as the 944 Le Mans. The 937 derived cars that we were talking about here are totally different from that car. The car pictured previously (in Boss livery) has a twin cam (both belt driven) sixteen valve turbocharged engine and is a completely separate machine.

968 turbos RRP as new is totally irrelevant, the point I was getting at was it was the endpoint of factory front four development and thus represents the ultimate (both by the dictionary definition and possibly perfornance-wise) road registered, factory produced version of the vehicle. Of course later is not always better so it would be interesting to drive both and then decide, rather than base it on looks alone.

Well IIRC it was about £75K so they may have been a bit hard to shift, they were hand built by motorsport - probably with a budget of about £6.50 [;)]

Indeedy, the 968 was regarded to be pricey. From a contemporary Top Gear Episode of the time, Clarkson said it was woefully equipped compared to its competitors and that for the same money a Jaguar XJR-s Celebration could be bought.

Hope you have a good and quick recovery.

Thats very kind of you Mike, thank you.

Understood but the 2.OL T engine shares the heritage - hence the road going `Le Mans` title. I was more on about the developmental side of things that are carried into production cars (a la F1)

The 2.0L and 2.5L engines have Le Mans heritage to thank for their development hence the 944 with its 500 ft lb gearbox and `safe` tuning to circa 300 - 350 bhp. The 2.0L engines were around 250bhp (reliably)

Here is an interesting page from a GTS (not GTR) brochure.

Note the list prices compared to a 911 turbo. Even at this level I would be surprise if they came close to turning a profit on any of the 59, given the amount of unique parts.
