I was talking to a 968 owner the other day who offered to sell me his car for a really good price. I cant really justify having two cars ,so I was wob=dering if anyone thinks its a good idea to buy a 968 and then sell my S2. I'm not sure how much my S2 is worth and if I should do the deal. Thoughts ?

Having started with a 1983 944 Lux, changed to a 944S then in late 1998 to a 968 coupe (kept for 12 1/2 years) and only swopped for a 968 cab - plus the way 968 values are appreciating of late, i'd say go for it! Why stay with an S2 when you can have an S3, with the variocam etc!! However, history is everything.

As Chris says - primary difference is 28 more horses and an extra gear - plus the styling obviously. From a resale perspective - I too think the 968s holding/increasing value compared to non-turbo 944s. If the difference is near enough for you - I'd go for it assuming condition is as good or better than your S2.
I've spent a small fortune on my 44 not to mention the amount of time I've spent on it. almost every part has been replaced or refitted.It's still not perfect and it still needs stuff doing to it but i'm not sure i can part with it yet. the 68 will have to be extra good to make me change. But I am going to go and have a proper look at it.

Colin, suggest you ask any questions on the porsche968uk forum, it's busier and more helpful than the 968 forum on PCGB (unfortunate, but true). There are members on there from Scotland who may well know the car and its history and who will be willing to help.
Had two S2's then a 968 Coupe, very quickly sold the 968 and bought another S2
The only 968's that sell quickly and for good money are Clubsports, check all the usual classified sites, the same Sports and Coupes have been for sale ages, some of them literally years, only the very cheap ones sell.

Sports are also selling well if they have good history. Coupes seem to hang around a bit longer, but even they are picking up and appreciating in price. Cabs are as well, but the market for them is more limited - but then there are only about 120 of them in the whole of UK!

Regardless of the upgrades the 968 over the S2 had when new, you'd struggle to find either in such perfect condition now that you'd notice the differences outside the looks.
Given the sheer amount of work your's has had, most of which you'll never get back if you sell, why change?
To me the choice between a standard 968 and an S2 comes down to eiher finding the perfect car, which you already have, or having a real thing about one style over the other that you can't get over.

I know your right Paul. but the thing is that I've done so much work to mine I can't see the wood for the trees with it. i wasn't really looking the car just popped up. Once I've driven mine to Le Mans and back I'll more than likely forget about changing it. I just wanted to see if there was any really deep feelings out there for 68's. And there is !

Yes, it's an evolution - the 6 speed box is waaaay better and the engine is crisper and smoother [8D] (if it still makes it's full 240bhp). The suspension and brakes are same as the 944 and the rest is exterior styling - inside they are almost identical. All the cars are younger than 944's so generally they are in better condition, and they are also comparatively rare because the 968 came out in the middle of a recession and didn't sell particularly well. Another thing to note is that all 968's are heavier than the S2 (even the 'stripped out' Clubsport)
The main choice is whether you can afford to spend a few thousand more, because all the 968's are generally priced higher than 944 (apart from the Turbos of course which will always cost more)

For what it's worth, my ten pennarth' [8|]. I too, for some strange reason, started to get designs on a 968. However, the "urge"
soon passed and, I'm glad it did because I'm getting ever nearer to landing my "Perfect Porsche" [8D], the Legendary 964 [8D][8D]
(In Black of course) [][]. Looking forward to meeting up with you at La Sarthe Colin []. Oh, and for what it's worth, I really
do miss my 944 Turbo, it was one hell of a car but, as I have said before, it just didn't quite "do it" for me. As for the 968

Not a cheap option - the 968 engines I've seen on Ebay they're asking close on £2k without the gearbox - and I don't think I've seen one of those offered! I'd put money that it would not stop at engine and box - ECU, wiring loom, Porsche claimed that something like 80% of the 968 was new compared to the S2, although I don't know how much truth there is in that!
