Thinking of swapping 996 for 993
- Thread starter cobalt911
- Start date
- I decided on 4wd - probably easier to drive in the wet and a safer bet for a Porsche-novice like myself who is used to more modern cars / stability control etc.
- Having decided on 4wd, the price step up to a TT (with power/torque on a completely different level) seemed 'good value'.
- I had not heard any scare stories* around TT running costs,
- the 993 looks fantastic and feels so compact and 'right' compared to the 996 model
- The 996 interior was too similar to other makes and just did not feel special. Getting in a 993, you feel like the clock has just gone back 20 years or more and I still can't believe they were being made that way less than 10 years ago. The 993 feels almost hand-made and has a fraction of the amount of pre-formed plastic compared to the 996 and most other cars.
- I did think about a non-turbo 997 as they are very quick and have regained some of the 993's good looks - but they were just way too expensive compared to a 993 TT
These are all personal views, but are what i followed a year ago, rightly or wrongly! Since then, I have warmed to the 996 a lot and can see why they also make sense for so many people.
Good luck making the right decision!
