This Sunday's Top Gear Blurb!

"Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May seek petrolhead heaven in three £1500 pound rear-wheel drive coupes and somehow find themselves entered in a terrifying French ice race. Meanwhile, Richard tries to speed up summer holiday flights by inventing the sport of airport vehicle racing, Jeremy walks with dinosaurs in the new BMW Z4, and actress Sienna Miller is the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car."

SO looks like the 944 will be in this weekends... Set your watches - got to be a good watch that one....

I gathered from the TV Blurb that it would be this weekend. Hands up if you think the car will be totalled...

Although I guess it's press for the old girls :).

In the ice racing, with Clarkson driving? It'll be bashed about a bit, I reckon. I doubt even he could actually wreck a 944 though, they're tough as old boots! I know they do their usual painting on the sides of the cars, at the very least. The photos in Top Gear magazine showed that much.

Still, an S2 for under £1,500 can't have been in the best of nick anyway. Probably has some major rust or some other big problem. Might as well give it a fun send-off on the telly!

I debated that last point when they did the BL challenge on another forum. Amongst many people moaning about the bad light they were put in etc. I told them to look more carefully at the SD1 which was clearly past its best a while ago.

Hmmm. The Morris Marina that they destroyed was 'one of the best remaining', according to the disgruntled owners club member that they bought it off (promising to look after it, allegedly).

Good cars can be had for very sensible prices. A friend of mine looked at a nice late S2 for just under £2000 a while ago. He slated it, but really it only needed a good polish and it was snapped up by a trader and offered on PH for over £5,000 a week later.

Problem is that the car will be presented as a laughing stock as part of one of their "hilarious" japes, which are about as funny as toothache.

Very glad that I have found someone else who thinks the same as me.

The few times I watch TopGear when at a friends' house reminds me why I no longer watch TV.

Clarkeson has oft sung the praises of the 944 so hopefully he will treat it with a bit of respect (time will tell no doubt). Have been a fan of TG but this series seems particularly weak to me, needs a bit of a revamp as they seem to be struggling to do anything original these days..

I'd agree Jon, it does seem they've run out of ideas (although the first episode of this series was rather good). Saying that I still find a bad TG episode better than most things on telly...

Lol, I suspect that however much he respects the car he'll be thrashing and trashing it for effect. I have no problem with this, it's a cheap car getting it's 15 minutes of fame, quite literally. I did whince a bit when they overheated the supercars, and I'd love to see an SD1 saved rather than drowned. Realistically, it's a TV programme and the cars are just another prop. [&:]

Yup though many of the cars do seem to be on their last legs when they buy them, the SD1 being one of them (hmm would love a Vitesse version - another possible purchase ?) I know the Marina they blew up was allegedly amongst the finest in the country which is a shame however cr*p the model itself is.

That SD1 on TG was an absolute heap. You only had to look carefully at the bodges on the sills. The Dolly was meant to be fully working (OD working) and as for the bumpers coming off on the Belgian pastry any BL owner with Chrome bumpers will tell you that undoing those bolts is an absolute pain.

But the thing to remember is that it is now ventured into the territory of being an entertainment show which has cars in. People like the bashing of cars, and wives tales being proven right (as sad as it sounds) and TG appeases that entertainment by the spades.

I'm not condoning what they are doing but I can see why they are doing it.

Something tells me it will get crashed, and then they will say it was part exed in as part of the scrappage scheme or something along those lines....

I read on PH , so it must be true, that the marina they burnt was a wreck, i.e. not the one they used for the feature. They were rubbish anyway, and if they didnt use use it - it would be a pile of rust by now anyway

Looked although Clarkson really liked his S2, until the ice racing he took quite good care of it.

Great to see a 944 S2 taking up so much prime time TV. For a fairly sheddy example the S2 looked great on screen.

Shame it couldn't match of beat the Twingo around the track. With the Stig driving who thinks the S2 would of come out on top[]?

I felt tense all the way through the programme, waiting for the moment they would start dinking it running into stuff, must say i don't like the 944 being mentioned in the same breath as rusty Capris and Marinas, also that my car is now only a 1500 pound "shed" as far as the millions of car layman are concerned.[:(]
From his body language i think he really liked it though, don't know how he bought that one for 1500 quid i thought it looked tidy,i even thought the silver dash thingys suited it...[:D]

Didn't see it ... am I to infer from this comment that it was bested by a Reno Twingo 'round a track? Tell me it's not so!

Are the relevant bits on-line anywhere? Youtube, mayhap?
