Purists look away, there is some 944 turbo neglect taking place on this Sundays show.

Here is a sneak peak from yesterday's studio filming.

Feel sorry for that car, been the subject of jolly japes and been wrecked, the 928 they ruined broke my heart. Not sure how they can do that as supposed car enthusiasts.[&o]

I thought this might be coming.

Last summer they, or rather their researchers were asking me if I had a 944 turbo they could buy for filming and I told them a flat no.. Then later I heard they had bought a white 86 turbo not far from me in Poole and then called me asking for advice about why it was suffering so badly with blue smoke from the exhaust... Not sure if this car is the one from Poole, or if they ditched that one and bought another one.

It is a shame the cars Clarkson has killed over the years and how rare or valuable they are now. I remember him dropping a piano on a 911 SC and driving it into a wall back in the late 90's for one of his videos, I think he ended up dropping that one nose first through the roof of a caravan.

If cars have self awarenes, clarkson is probably seen as their antichrist.

I do like watching the show though.

Helped out their researchers several times over the years, yet they never offer me a blooming ticket to watch the filming!

The only real consolation is that the 944 is being driven hard and fast round a derelict village and shows off its good handling qualities.

This car started off metallic brown, so another machine than the white one.

You will all like the rear drop down tailgate!

I was cringing watching what he was doing to the 928, i was not far off e mailing Top Gear to give them a piece of my mind, even though i always watch and enjoy they do trash some lovely cars ;-(

Over here we have a show called Canada's Worst Driver - I think there is one in the UK also - not sure which was first - ours has been running about 10 years now. The premise is they take 6 or so nominated worst drivers and have them perform a series of skill tests. Some of the memorable cars the "contestants" have destroyed include a 928, a Rolls, an AMC Marlin, a couple of Camaros, a Corvette, a Mustang, etc. In recent years they either have run out of classics to destroy or no one will sell them a classic knowing that it will be totaled. The last two years the primary vehicle was a new Camaro coupe followed by a new Cadillac CTS. I'm kind of glad they have enough budget now to ruin a new car each season - it was painful watching good old cars having their bodies scraped off and smashed in the name of "good TV".

I'm a big fan of Top Gear also and I agree with you that they destroy a lot of nice cars - at least the majority of those are not particularly special although watching James May beat a twin turbo Lotus to death in Patagonia while Clarkson was destroying the 928 was no fun. Can't say I was upset about Hammond's Mach 1 - I never cared much for Mustangs after the '66 fastback - call me old fashioned...

I feel sorry for the previous owner that might watch "their" old pride and joy being destroyed pretty much, for the sake of TV,always a hard choice to part with an old car,to see it being ruined on TV must be horrid.

I am sorry but all these discussions should be taking place after Sunday's show. I was there too but haven't said a word because I don't want to spoil the surprise for readers of this forum. Boo me off if you like but I consider this bad form.

The Lotus and 928 destruction was in my eyes very sad thing to watch, they were just too nice,to comment on that as someone that appreciates classic cars is not bad form at all.

I have to agree... the show has steadily become a caricature of itself & actually seems to have less content each series...

I agree Paul that the show is in a different format now or lets say the format has evolved not necessarily in a good way. Al they will say to their critics is that based on the number of people per edition, and the number of applicants the waiting list is up from 8 years to 12 years so we must be doing something right. For me I would like to see it more about car testing, and interestingly consistency. I just watched an episode where Hammond is looking at two potential future classics, the Mercedes 190e 2.5 Cosworth and the VW Corrado VR6; now in the blurb Hammond said that the chassis was very accomplished and that one Martin Brundle had proclaimed it to be one of the best handling chassis of its time, yte in the episode where they are testing three sporting coupes the Ford sierra Cosworth, the BMW M3 and another Mercedes 190 e 2.5 Cosworth The same Martin Brundle denied ever having said it. Too anoraky?

I quite agree but the bad form is in the reveal; like going to watch the Mousetrap and giving away the ending, although unlike the Mousetrap one is not sworn to secrecy

It will be predictable with a "hilarious" reason to wreck a classic car,the picture in the first post of this thread shows the car takes a hammering ,no real suprise or plot reveal as this is standard Top gear format...

I'd rather see a car go out in a blaze of glory (TV star or Track day/race car), than for it to just sit in someones garden for 5years waiting for the restoration that will never come. [:(]

Hi John

Sorry you feel it was bad form of me to post a photograph of the 944 from this Sundays show.

I felt that as the car had been shown on the Top Gear tv trailers screened on the BBC, it would not really be any great surprise for anyone, hence why I posted the picture.

Regards

Ross

A brown/brown/brown 1987 - far from a common car. Ive only ever seen two brown series two dash cars and never a Turbo. Id really like those wheels despite forged wheels being the correct type for my own car (and Ive just bought a set).
