Ticket (back) to the darkside booked...

Fen it does look great but I hope it's not more brittle than the 952 by design. I don't think they can reliably run more than 1 bar but hey it's every boys poster car so nice to try one if you can!!!

Nice one Fen - we knew you couldn't bring yourself to ditch the boost! Hope the inspection comes out OK and it puts a smile on your face!

Originally is the rear boot lid and spoiler the same as a 964? If it is take a look at this on ebay

Not mine, just browsing 964 stuff as one does.[:)]
Cheers,

The spoiler in the picture is the original. The intercooler sticks through the hole in the engine cover where the retractable spoiler of the Carrera 2 & 4 fits so the tea tray is required to go over the top of it.

Hello Fen,
I didn't know what was original so I just posted the ebay item number just in case.
Nice looking car though apart from the colour (not into red cars)[:)]
Cheers,

My ideal colour would have been Slate grey so I think we share similar taste in that department.

PPI was delayed by a week so it's still not a done deal. The eBay one is a forum member's car. Being RHD and very low miles it's significantly out of my budget though.

Hello Fen,
Yes, it is a colour that isn't 'in your face'. Rich and classy (so totally the opposite to the owner!)[:)]
Cheers,

Well... PPI still not done and I have been pondering ever more seriously the wisdom of buying a Guards red car when I really don't like red much and when it makes the wide body so "look at me".. Add to that the LHD and it isn't a car I could have comfortably taken to work this week while the hearse is in the paintshop for a pre-winter spruce up (stonechips/wheel refurb). So...

I have just put a deposit on a RHD Cobalt blue Carrera 4 with light grey sports leather, hoping to collect on Saturday. The sharper eyed among you may have noticed that a Carrera 4 doesn't run boost and therefore sucks, all I can say is it was significantly cheaper than a 965, I had reason to be in the north west of England today and "watch this space" [;)]

All the best in your purchase Fen.

On the subject of the 965, it was a prototype which was axed and looked like a 964 turbo S. Because the 964 turbo S looked like the 965 the S got the nickname 965 and it then stuck to the 964 turbo as well.

965 had a completely different engine to a 964 turbo.

Unfortunately some of us were trained on the 965, as it was so close to actually being a product.... but then a bean counter ended up in charge of Porsche for a while and the 965 was one of several casualties of the bean counters axe... Some would say that the bean counter saved Porsche, which may well be true.

The part numbers which begin with 965 tend to be either right hand drive versions of 964 parts or in some cases parts designed for the axed prototype.

have told myself this is how the car was intended

Looked at 911`s a long time ago. Couldnt stand the offset (close) pedals on RHD due to the wheel arch intrusion

LHD have the pedals in the correct place IMO and therefore is an easier drive

Edited to say that it looks the dogs danglies in red, whatever you get, good luck and safe driving.

More modern variants may be better??

Nope, clutch pedal is still in the passenger side on a RHD 964. You get used to it.

This is not an everyday car, but neither is it a track car for me therefore it must be a road car (or a garage queen I guess) and I just think RHD is much more usable on the road. LHD would be a pain to use as an occasional alternative to the hearse as for example I wouldn't be able to raise the barrier to get out of the car park at work without a lot of hassle. I did seriously consider LHD, but ultimately it just felt like a big compromise that I would likely always regret. I say this from the experience of 3 LHD cars in the past, not just an unrealistic assumption.

Any pictures yet Fen? Also, did I read betwwen the lines too much in one of your posts above to think you might have plans for a 'blower' on you new Carrera 4 in the near future?

I have just this morning insured it through Adrian Flux who once more came through where others would not even look at a supercharged 964.

My plan is to pick it up on Saturday and drive it home where I will have to leave it alone as it's slightly overdue for a service (bang on the miles but 15 months rather than 12) and that can't be done for a week. I'll rectify anything that is wrong with it straight away and probably fit a cat bypass and G-pipe to the exhaust. Provided there are no huge bills I'll just cut straight to a set of KW Variant 3 coilovers for it, probably with a 964 Turbo ARB on the back to induce it to oversteer a bit.

I intend to run it like that for a month or two apart from keeping my eyes open for some Cup 1 wheels, getting a bumper scuff painted and fitting some teardrop mirrors I got on the 'Bay. If it seems to be a sound one then around Christmas I intend to fit the Ninemeister supercharger kit for 320-330bhp and gobs of low down torque.

It looks just like this one: (primarily because that is it)

Very nice colour combo Fen. You really do know how to enjoy yourself don't you! Look forward to hearing how it performs once all the work is complete. Enjoy it in the mean time.
