Hi Martin!
I've just been allocated a slot for a GT4, so first thing to do was search the forums for other owners and opinions on it.
I've just watched the video of your GT4 and I'm extremely excited for the arrival of mine. I currently own a 718 Cayman S (manual) however, think I'll be going for a PDK on my GT4, from owning your GT4 what was driving manual like and would you have preferred an automatic after purchase?
I've just seen the pictures of your GT3, looks incredible, hopefully you'll have some videos posted for it.
Thanks,
-Stone.
Hi -Stone,
Thank you for your comments and congratulations on getting a GT4 allocation, you are in for a treat. My GT4 is without a doubt the best car that I have owned to date, the forthcoming GT3 has a lot to live up to.
In terms of the transmission options, this is a difficult one. I absolutely loved the manual gearbox in my GT4, it was so precise to use and comes with the option of the Rev match button to assist you. I found that it was quite addictive and probably encouraged me to change gear sometimes, just for the hell of it.
However, I quickly realised that if I tried to enjoy my GT4 to its full potential on the public roads, I’d soon lose my license and so decided to give the club’s track days a try, to explore both my capabilities and the cars in a safer environment.
I have really enjoyed these and soon found that for a track novice like me, there is enough to think about when trying to improve my driving skills, such as where the car needs to be on the track, braking zones, other drivers, etc, let alone getting the gears right too.
It is with this in mind that I have personally opted for a PDK car this time and it will be better at changing gear than I will ever be, what is more I can always select the manual option and use the paddles when I want to.
That said, if I wasn’t going to do track days and my car was just for Sunday’s and fun days, then I probably would have gone with the manual option.
In terms of the other options, if I were ordering a GT4 again, I would still want the club sport pack and bucket seats, I would also add the LED headlights, the Bose stereo and Racetex sun visors over and above my spec. Otherwise, just go with what you want, you can’t really go wrong, they are fabulous cars. When is your car due to arrive?
Enjoy speccing your GT4 and please share your journey with your new car on the forum. In my personal experience, the Cayman section of the forum is one of the best and most active. There are some great people on here who will be happy to help and give advice as and when required.
Cheers,
Martin
