Toast rack

Well I'm no expert with steel, so I would think getting the vents cut into a 951 panel would cost a lot more than the 80 quid I paid for the 931 panel - plus I still have a perfect 951 panel if I ever need it! I looked at the other vented options, Fen had one I quite liked but it's $250 dollars plus shipping and tax, and I quite like the fact that I'm using a Porsche part, albeit requiring a bit of modding.

Mmmm, I might give a few OPC's a call then as often they have their own stashes of bits lying around their own stores. Anyone know the part number?

Hi Scott,

Looked on PET but they only have the part number for the whole front panel - 477 805 593 A.

Me neither! I'd be interested to know how much it would cost, though. Anyone?

I had a look as well. They are listed a bit further down in Illustration number 810-00 under the section titled 'Decorative Fittings'

477 853 381

I think it's a far more complete solution to have these fitted to an existing panel that fits properly. Tatty S2 or Turbo badge panels can be had for circa ÂŁ20 at autojumbles

Cutting holes in the steel is easy. Use a dremmel or similar device to cut near nett size holes then use a file to take the hole out to the finished shape and size. paint the exposed steel edges and install the plastic trims. Cost = the cost of the plastic trims + a few hours of elbow grease + the paint materials. Depending upon how the plastic trim attaches to the badge panel you might even get away with having to paint the whole badge panel.

Scott, in theory what you say is correct. However, the holes cut into the steel have a considerable 'lip' which turns inward to house the vents. The vents themselves are kept in place by 3 tabs, 2 on the bottom which the vents clip into and 1 at the top which is a screw. I think this bit would be the least of your worries though because they are hidden by the vents so you could largely attach them however you wanted. I'm just not too confident I could achieve a good finish with a dremel and a file?

Found this lowrider on eday.de. Just look I'm after at the back with the toast rack. Looks superb IMHO!

In all seriousness I think this does a good job of covering up the messy exhaust and spare wheel-well, and creates the illusion of a far lower car. Early luxes can look a littlew as if they are on stilts, no offence guys....[&:]

Add lowered suspension, bigger wheels and a good uprated exhaust and a proper "wing" is streets ahead, but has anyone ever hacked out the slots to fit a big exhaust?

Good point about the exhaust Paul - I have a twin exit so may well need some fettling! A company on ebay who sell fibreglass copies seem to think it will fit the later turbo bumper no probs. Anyone any experience of these fibreglass copies or should I stick to a used steelie?

The original is fibreglass too, so no worries there, just make sure the part you get an accurate one, there's a world of difference between the fit of good and bad FG parts!
