Too loud for track day!

Interesting day today. Fantastic weather at the Castle Combe retro day. Great to see 50 club members there. We had a 50 years of Porsche parade around the track.

As we came off i pulled in to scrutineering. 5 guys there today doing sound testing, including the grumpy one from Thursday who denied ever seeing me! Turns out he had done the test wrong and that it should have been at 5750. They were very helpfull today and we did a couple of tests. With a hot engine, fresh from the track at 5750 we had 101dB and 96dB at 4000 revs. So good to go for either a loud or quiet track day. Hoorah!

Now going to get myself booked up for the next track day, confident with how to ensure the test is done correctly. Hopefully i will get on the track this time!

Thanks all

Adrian

Results can vary from to day especially at Goodwood I found. Always make sure you tell the driver behind you to hang back to reduce noise bouncing from his car during static check.

Today at CC I was 101, last year 97. "That was then sir" was the comment. It all seems hugely variable to me.

Considering the dB scale is logarithmic and therefore 3dB is double the volume, unless you've had something drop off your exhaust, its not very likely, is it?!

I'm afraid that due to the moaning NIMBYs, circuit owners have become paranoid about noise levels.

Good to meet you today Adrian, that 104db reading certainly seemed wrong given your standard exhaust. Glad you've had another check and all seems ok, though the sports exhaust is still a good retrofit.
