No, S2s have not dropped that far, but sadly the reputation and value of good cars is going down the kermit due to all the sheds out there, and this recession means that probably all car values are affected at the moment. What worries me long term is that the reputation of the 944 is just being ruined by all the tatty and poorly maintained ones the often appear, and the 944 is now going the way of the 924. I kept kidding myself that the good ones will survive, all the sheds will go the scrapheap, and one day the cars will be rare, classic and desirable and thus increase in value !! [][

At the end of the day something is only worth what somebody else is willing to pay for it....
I just sold my 89 Fiesta XR2... no MOT, no Tax.... for £1400..... [
That's the same price I paid for my 944S... which came with 10 months MOT and FSH.

Anyway, all that matters is I love my car and love driving it, and thats what matters, it's only money after all !
This needs to be inscribed on the dashboard of every 944 owner, and inscribed extra-deeply on the foreheads of those who worry about the value of their 944's.
- You don't buy a car to make money (unless you are a dealer)
- There is no such a thing as a cheap Porsche (unless you are a dealer)
- A good 944 has represented performance-car-bargain-of-the-year for the last 5 years at least (for everyone)
Buy a good one that you can afford, drive it lots, keep it in good condition and sell it when you are finished with it. If you make a loss, remember the good times and good miles you have spent in it.
Oli.
(Still amazed that such a good S2 can be bought for £1500 tho'!)

They really are quite fantastic cars for their age/value and even better at that price! You'd struggle to buy a 10 year old Daewoe at that money! Just shows what a difference good taste can make.

Thats a S2 for 2.5 n/a money......
If you did indeed get the car for that price, check everything is OK, and drive it away with a big smile like you stole it, because you did [
For your own sanity, as its been said, check the sills are in good order and that the belts have been changed (including rollers/tensioners) in the last 30k.
If not its a £500-700 bill you really need to invest in, especially with the S2, if that engine goes due to belt failure you are looking at a huge bill or new engine itrs that serious a thing on these cars.
But thats the scary bit over, bloody stunning looking car from that pic, and i'm suspecting you dropped really lucky there [

I paid £350 for one of those, a Matiz, for the misses to learn how to drive in! []
I did have to change the heater matrix on it though! []

Cast your mind back to the Mk.II Escort. Try to buy an MOTd car now; and see what it is worth.
I dont think that the 944 was become this valuable, for manifold reasons, but it shows that a car with a lowly status and which attracts ill-conceived modifications; neednt lose all of its value over the longer term.
Of course - if youd wanted assured classic status....... you should have spent more and bought a proper Porsche.....[
