Track Car Colour / Colours - Opinions Sought

As title really: My 924S track day car is Alpine White and its more than a little tired. The car is hopefully about to undergo a mechanical transformation (which involves the fitting of an AUDI 5v turbocharged AEB engine, which hasnt been done before - possibly for good reason...). Whether we can achieve this or not, the car needs paint, and although I like Alpine White (its my third car in this colour), Id like a change.

My last radically altered front engined car was repainted in Maritime Blue with a white cabin. It was white originally: the new colour matched my 968 and it was seldom seen then (1995). I still have a soft spot for MB, but it seems to have become extremely popular of late, so Ive decided against it. I toyed with the idea of either Rubystone Red or Mint Green for a while, but in the end Ive settled on either a pure white (whiter than a white thing white), or Gulf Racing colours; or possibly a mixture of both (mixed options are duck egg and tangerine car with a white cabin or a white car with a duck egg cabin and a tangerine rollover cage).

Im not expecting to sell the car, so re-sale values arent important; but Id be interested to hear peoples opinions, or any suggested alternatives.

My car is all Alpine White currently but was originally delivered like this. Debating whether to go back to original Alpine white over Guards? I do like it as seen on one other car but do like the clean lines of a white car. Maybe a Alpine white over Guards with red cage/harnesses?

In Gulf colours this is nice

My favourite split colour! Id certainly revert to white over red if it were my car.

I dont have any pictures of the car as it is now, but itjust looks like a slightly tired white 924S. Im going to take regular pictures of the conversion if/when it happens. We're about to start measuring over the next few days...

I intend to fit a widebody 937 kit after the mechanical work has been completed, along with a flush fitting windscreen, so it wont look look quite like the car youve pictured.....

I was planning of going down the CGT route with mine, now staying with narrow body and upping the power to 200ish bhp with a 951 intercooler. Will shock a few 911's on track as it does already with 944's [:D]

Do you have a cage in your car yet? I have a group buy option on the table. PM me if interested.

Saying maritime is extremely popular for a track 944/68 is only because lali, mark and myself post on forums and we all have or had maritime cars. The only other one I have seen was a 968 down here at Combe one weekend and never again since. Robert Holyman has a blue race car but in the flesh its a totally different shade to mine and Marks car, and I know ours are very close to true maritime as I bought a touch up pen for mine from Exeter OPC and it matches extremely well.

Minty green would look OK, the gulf colours fantastic but a colour that came out much better than I would of expected is the bright lambo/kermit green of Ben Eacocks 944. It really does look great IMHO. Something outrageous like a bright lilac/purple/mauve would look great for a track car as well IMHO, basically anything different to the normal road car colours.

Whiter than white is a Renault white ISTR? Peters car is this colour works well.

I love this! Never seen this before, but add gold wheels and it's a great colour. Always go for period colour schemes.

Sack the photographer, though. The light is in shot. [&:]

Martini colours....gotta be!

Absolutely. If it's white already then a Martini Graphic from Rick sounds spot on to me [:)]

Ive tried to reply to this a few times, but the site kept logging me out... I was trying to say that Martini colours equate to what is essentially a white car with decals; so a possibility but not a separate colour choice.

My decision was due to others reactions really Neil. I dont want to be seen to be jumping on the bandwagon, and thatd be the case even if there are only a handful of cars about. I had a Maritime Blue track car approaching 20yrs ago, so Id like something different this time. Im not sure about Kermit green, although Viper Green could be an option (I havent seen Bens car btw).

The Boss sponsored 944 GTP was a white car with decals again and Id only ever consider a 'Pink Pig' as a vinyl wrap - better to see than to own, I think [:D]

Top man! You can get stupid amounts of reliable power and the PTW will be fantastic.

Main issues I`d say are: Bellhousing adaptor, torque tube adaptions and engine mounts. Do keep us posted with regular updates and photos.

I think you should consider a solid colour. Red, white or black

Me?

I`d do it in Red as per the original 924 Carrera GTS

Nice...............

Now that is what I am talking about [8D]

Not so sure about "Ed's Shed" but when Dave finishes that car it will be something special - I have lots of pics of the build, but I thought he was planning to keep it quiet. is there a build thread I've missed?

|Ed,

No build thread yet, but the car is coming on in leaps and bounds, all will be revealed soon.

Good things come to those who wait!

Looking forward to seeing the finished product of "Dave's Moneypit" [;)]

anyway, back on topic..

Solid colours for track cars, preferably bright. might be worth looking at all the safety colours to see if there's any that haven't made a comeback yet
