If you're having to modify your pads in any way other than a dab of Copperslip, then there is something wrong that needs seeing to.
Not at all.
If the pad doesnt `relax` properly it continues to brush the hot disc.
In normal road conditions it probably isnt so much an issue but the pad (and the backing plate) reach serious temperatures (especially on track) so if its a `tight` snug fit when cold it wont be when hot. It`ll be a sticky fit.
Not all backing plates are made to perfick tolerances so dont assume that if a pad is a bit tight its ok, its not. They should have movement and be a little slack in their guides so they release fully. The anti rattle springs are designed to cut down the noise from loose pads but if the pads are a tight fit whats the point in anti rattle springs?
We`re only talking fractions of a mm etc in a few strategic places to `loosen` them a bit so they arent static or sticky when cold. Its not major surgery. I also round off slightly the square edge so they cannot bind if at a slight angle, over cautious I know but thats me. Its a brush with a mini grinder disc thats all.
The copperslip leaves a copper deposit when the medium burns off so aids reducing friction between hot metal contact surfaces ie the plate hangers/guides.
If you have the start of plate lift and can get the pads out then grinding a bit off the pads at that point redresses the issue albeit temporarily.
I personally would rather have loose pads retained by a spring only to cut down the noise than tight fitting pads that I know arent releasing properly.
S`wat i do (and have done on many cars) and some have had the anti rattle springs sent over the nearest hedge, the noise is only a slight clicking anyway [
