Can someone explain to me why people buy houses near a race track (probably at reduced cost!) then complain about noise? I am certain that if anything noise from race tracks must have reduced significantly over the years . Tyres, exhausts and even engines are increasingly quieter than they have ever been. The same can't have been said in the tracks infancy when open exhausts cross ply tyres and push rod engines were rife !!???[][][]

No worries, engine noise will soon be a thing of the past. Following its acquisition of VW/Audi, Porsche will develop a green GT3 TDi, equipped with 12 very quiet turbo-charged cylinders (cf. the R8s). The engine noise simulator (amplified via lightweight in-board Porsche Design ear-plugs) will be optional with a selection VW, AUDI and PORSCHE sounds to choose from (the latter at a premium of course).
