Track Day Prep.

ORIGINAL: Andy97

My 944T (250) has MO30 brakes (braided hoses & new fluid!) , LSD & ARB but not the adjustable dampers - does the fitting of the Promax kit justify the need for uprated suspension or brakes?

I wouldn't have thought so Andy - you're welcome to try mine out some time as it has a pretty similar setup to Promax level 1.
You get more boost & it comes in lower down the rev range, so you will be going faster by the time you get to the next corner.

There is always that subtle difference between what you "need" and "want" though [;)]

A few companies do recommend a fire extinguisher - a few of us have the brey Kraus mount that fits in front of the passenger seat.
Even a standard car will do very well on track especially once the confidence starts to grow, a second set of wheels and tyres is a nice addition, they dont have to be race rubber - though that will make a big difference - but well scrubbed road tyes will be better than a fresh new set - in the dry.

Dont forget to check your tyre pressures BEFORE you leave the circuit and again in the morning after you come home.

I got knocked back by having the fire extinguisher under the passenger seat because I couldn't reach it with the harness on. I told the guy that I would of course unbuckle the harness but he didn't budge. It is now on the armrest in the middle. This is of course 'Down under' and our rules are pretty strict.

a couple of questions, if I may - assuming I take some spare oil and a few basic tools, is there somewhere safe to leave them while on track?
My insurance covers me for trackdays but I need to fit an extinguisher to comply - is there a UK stockist for the brey kraus mount mentioned above, or something similar? My first thought was Demon Tweeks, but they don't have anything listed.

You can generally find a pit garage for your tools and junk, it's a bit risky I suppose but it's rare to hear of anything going walkies. I wouldn't leave anything nice on display though!

BK is available from Porscheshop, however I might recommend looking at the EBS Racing site http://www.ebsracing.com/ in the States as they're a lovely firm to deal with and they might work out cheaper (I save a fortune on brake pads by buying from them).
Best regards,
Peter

You can make it justify it if you need to [;)]

My 3.2 with just short of 400bhp is still on M030 and standard brakes. In good order they cope fine, but of course an upgrade can always be beneficial [:-]

My 6x4 oval exhaust arrived from Ess yesterday, it was little bigger than I expected its fair to say, I nearly fell in! Hopefully it will look a little less in yer face on the car when it has blackened up a bit!

I may have to go for a cruise at my nearest Mcdonalds whilst its all shiney! I am sure the saxo bwoys will be well jealous init'!

Should get it fitted this weekend.....then hopefully out to play!

Try to get some good photos on here from snetterton, maybe even some more U tube videos so we can try to learn the track ready for the next events!

Rich.

It will soon appear to shrink and when you park next to a standard one they do start to look very weedy - especially if there is a line of big ovals (Some say with the standard pipe you feel the need to enlarge your engine to compensate but I am sure thats just a rumour [:D] [:D] )

My brother did find it very amusing to pretend to coax small furry animals (cats, badgers) out every time I saw him for the first couple of months after fitting.

Well I've just finished my trackday prep for Snetterton. Checked all the fluids, put the PF97 brake pads back in, loaded the road wheels in the boot (just in case the track tyres aren't legal for the drive home) and that's about it.

I decided not to remove the rear seats and the electric fronts this time as I have to get the car down to Jons on Saturday and I'd have no time to refit them (my lightweight £40 EBAY bucket seats are just sooooooo uncomfortable for a long drive)

Oooooh I just have to charge up the camcorder for the inevitable Youtube showing off [8|]

wish I had a bit less work on at the moment, I very much enjoyed snetterton last time we were there,
Tony

Tempted but my thumb will not stand up to it I fear especially as I have important exams coming up in a coupla weeks and need it so as to write [8|]

Of to the `ring` soon on my Germany tour so wont see y`all on track until late summer, good luck.
