Track day. Which one first?

Bit gutted not to have been able to make it along, but at least the weather was good and it sounds like everyone had a good time.

I can't remember what was discussed a while back, is there another Silverstone evening planned where there will be a good 944 turnout?

I haven't seen any specific dates mentioned bar this one, but Goldtrack have another 9 evenings planned for Silverstone through the summer (and also some for Snetterton). They better sort out the red flag numbers though [;)]

Well mine must be ready in a few weeks, so will try to pick one or two dates to do some testing.

Yours must be ready soon too, what's the latest news?

Have to say thats put me off of the idea of one of these evening trackdays - its one of my least favourite things sharing a session with race cars......( I know that sounds odd if you are on a racetrack, but I find them a pain in the neck)

Glad you had fun though

highlight of the evening was watching a Lotus Exige try and keep up with a Clio Cup race car and spin off at the end of the main straight

Its unusal for the race cars to be there on the evenings, maybe there is a race weekend coming up, nice to meet some new faces as well,

aiming to do at least one evening this year - was feeling the need to be driving yesterday ;)

I can't really remember having problems sharing track with race cars, but in my experience most that attend them aren't terribly quick. Some of the slower ones aren't so keen on being overtaken by a tatty 20 year old 944 though [;)]

One track day I attend just after I started out had open wheelers running (Donington I think), that was really exciting (in a good way).

I've had many more concerns about Radicals, they're a bit too quick to be mixing it with road cars unless a degree of patience is used, and most owners seem to like to treat each lap as if they're qualifying.

As for running out of fuel, at the last Goldtrack day I attended there were rumours that one of the stoppages was caused by a 911 doing exactly this, and further rumours suggested that it may have been driven by Calum at the time... Must remember to drop this into the conversation in front of Melindi one day[;)]

It's all ready, bar an MOT and then some Dyno time. We are just waiting for one part to restrict oil supply to the turbocharger as Simon believes the 5 bar 951 oil pressure is higher than optimum for this type of turbocharger.

The ESS track car is absolutely superb in my eyes, he has done a great job turning a road legal car into a totally stripped out track slag. Close up it is not pretty, but in Tonys pics it looks great - especially the GTS headlamp covers. I wish I had a passenger ride in it (but I would probably have doubled it's weight :ROFLMAO: )

Is it just me, but I seem to notice that one of the cars in the trackday line up was not actually taking part in the trackday, it was merely a photographers transport vehicle [;)]

Think you must be faster than me [;)]

My first track day was at Spa (was living in Holland at the time) and there was all sorts of machinery there - ex F1 cars, other open wheelers etc and a few racing saloon cars - was not the most relaxed introduction, especially when it started to rain...... had a lot of fun in the end though, as the expensive stuff dived into the pits when the rain came.

Bedford is a good place to start, been there a couple of times, and I fancied Silverstone as a step up from that after reading about it in this thread. Evenings seem like a good idea also. Still not convinced about the idea of sharing a corner with a racer who is testing to improve his lap time by .05s though.

The racers didnt seem to be much of a problem really. The slow ones were pretty good at moving over. The quick ones were past very quickly!
I had more of an issue with the slower cars who didnt want to move over (like the 997 Turbo for instance [;)]) At various stages of the evening I was caught up in a 5 or 6 car snake, all stuck behind one slow car who was happily sauntering down the middle of the straights without a care in the world.
Annoyingly I am going to miss the next 3 Silverstone evenings as I will be in Germany. Still, at least that gives me time to get some new front tyres and pads. A bit undecided on what to go for at the moment. I think I will stick with the Toyo T1Rs, but may upgrade the pads to PFs.
