Admittedly an old MX-5 can be bought cheaper still, is bullet proof, much lighter then a 944, still RWD and will cost less to run again but as this is a Porsche forum you didn't hear me say this
Fen`s old turbo charged Mazda Miata (US spec MX-5) was faster but scared him to death [

From experience......................their is a certain romanticism about a cheap track car for cheap track days...............
If you are going to buy a car for track days and want the bells and whistles.....................
1) If you can do the mechanics/preparation etc etc then it will cost you £2000 minimum unless you simply strap it on and track it.
2) If you cant then its £4K to £5K
3) If you dont have huge wads of cash as a contingency then I would recommend you dont go for a 944
4) If you do then buy the best you can afford
5) Full track days on famous circuits will cost you at least £400 - £500 with wear, tear, fees and petrol (assumes nothing breaks)
6) Airfield (concrete) circuits will add the cost of a re-spray from the stone chips [

6) Track days will cost you more if your suspension isnt up to it and your expensive new sticky tyres are toast by mid morning
7) Therefore if you cant mechanic and dont have huge wads of cash spare the best advice you will hear (repeatedly) on all forums is......
"buy one thats already had the money spent on it and save the money for the track days" [

I, of course, never ever listen and am currently building my fourth..............................but I like to do it, so there [8D]
