Tubi Exhaust Report

New member
After a lot of consideration I've just fitted a new EVO II Tubi exhaust on my 996TT X50.
I did it through Mr. Manu Sachdeva at www.scuderiasystems.com and fitted by www.verdiferrari.biz.
All very well done, at a well-suited price and the end result is awesome....!!!!!!!
The car performs better and the sound has improved exceptionally.....
The 996TT now sounds like a supercar should sound indeed.....
I highly recommend it...

Hey Sniper
I have promised not to tell, but Manu has been very accomodating and nice to talk to...
Give him a ring and discuss it with him...
Cheers

Have you had the sound level checked? Am considering getting one (when it's released for my 997TT) but any ideas on the noise increase, relevant for track days. The standard system registered at 90 dBa which means I have 15dBa in hand.
Thanks
Graham

Hi Graham
That is something I will have to do together with a rolling-road test for my car in the near future...
But I am told that it is OK with the majority, BUT not all....

Dr. P, you sound really pleased with the Tubi which sounds great - what are the sound levels like at cruise and low throttle compared to the standard exhaust.

Hey Marcus
I am very pleased with the exhaust sound indeed, and the only way I could compare it is with what you would expect to hear from a turbocharged Ferrari...
There is not a huge difference at cold start, but there is I would say about 25% increase on the sound level thereafter...
But the exhaust sound is deeper, "throttly" but clearer and menacing at high revs.. it tells you when the waste gate is fully open and time to change gear....
There is also a light resonance at about 700 rpm, at idle, which I also love...

You have very nearly convinced me and i'm nearly there but just worry about the sound levels in the cabin at motorway cruising, I guess I want my cake and eat it. Loved the deep throaty sound of the techart and nearly went for it but I was really put off by the booming sound at cruise between 80-100mph which I found really intrusive. just

Hey Marcus
If you are around come and listen to mine...

The sound intensity is progressive and I did not notice a significant booming at any speed....

It did, just..... but then that is below the going rate for a "designer" exhaust and the job could be tricky with the lamda sensors removal....

Cheers

thank you Dr. P that sounds like the green light to me, I have friends who live in the 'big smoke' so may take you up on your offer of a listen. You sound really pleased so I'll probably combine the trip with the install and get it booked in. How long did it take to fit and have you kept your original bits ? The one you have is it a second generation unit being an 'EVO II' ?

just had the full low down from Manu, he certainly makes this system sound very attractive, price a little more than I was expecting though with the next number being a seven.

Hello Marcus

You may keep the original parts which are not used, but I could not see any reason why...
Used catalysts could be bad for your health and the new exhaust is guaranteed for life...

Price depends on how you pay and how your car is being delivered to Scuderia, but mention to Manu that Panos asks him to reduce his price, for the sake of more Porsche customers.... unless of course he is thinking of passing me some commission....!?!?

It takes about 3 hours after the car has cooled down, but it depends also very much on how easy the old bits & pieces come off....

Where from are you coming down to the 'big smoke'...

Cheers

Just had email for Manu - the new 997TT Tubi is now available!
So who's going to be the first guinea pig?
Graham

It would be to our advantage if all the 996tt fitted with different exhausts get together to vote for the best in sound, performance, price, etc.....

To quote Manu
The new sport exhaust is not massively different from the Tubi for the 996 Turbo. The layout is the same - each bank of the flat 6 is individually silenced and catalysed resulting in a two piece muffler. Once again the system was developed by Tubi SpA with the help of their partners at Champion Motorsport. Champion Motorsport are the competition arm of the worlds largest Porsche dealership based in Florida, USA. [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]System development consisted of three stages:[FONT=verdana,geneva"]1. Thermal testing [FONT=verdana,geneva"]2. Dyno + Compliance testing[FONT=verdana,geneva"]3. Sound development (this is primarily muffler development and takes place in Italy)[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]The second stage of development was actually quite complex as it dictated the the type of catalyst chosen - a catalyst was chosen which was both OBDII/Emissions compliant and would permit increased exhaust flow to allow the car to develop more power. Dyno testing has resulted in consistent power gains in the region of 18-20hp broadly in line with the power increases recorded by the Tubi for the earlier 996 Turbo. (although at WRC Dyno facilities at Silverstone, the earlier system delivered 27hp with a BMC air filter). [FONT=verdana, geneva"]The key difference between this muffler system and the 996TT system is down to thermal insulation properties. The fully fared in rear section of 997TT requires a sport exhaust with better thermal properties (i.e one that runs cooler) than the tubi for the 996TT which can dissipate heat more effectively as it's lower-mounted position is more open. Unlike other manufacturers Tubi Style have built a thicker, ribbed, more thermally insulated muffler chamber which does NOT require an additional heatshield (the same was true of the Tubi for the 996TT). This is actually more expensive and difficult solution than simply adding a flimsy stainless steel shield over a red-hot muffler.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]The new Tubi is less heavily silenced than the stock system, it is little lighter than the original 997TT system. [FONT=verdana, geneva"]As ever, with a Tubi, the key thing, is the sound. Off boost, the well silenced Tubi is fairly modest - all the noise really starts to escalate when the turbos spool up and then it's a classic supercar sound - the same V8-like roar that the 996TT developed. That system really was the best sounding system in the world of the car and this 997 variant is no different. The sound is a Tubi signature and it's the reason why the EVO 2 996TT was the best selling system in the entire Tubi catalogue (outselling even the Ferrari 360 Tubi)
