Tubi Exhaust Report

Tubi now fitted - and it's brill! Thanks to Manu at Scuderia Systems and Mike at Sports and Classic in Mobberly, Cheshire. Fairly straight forward - when you know what to do!! Shame the Porsche turbo studs aren't up to much, but everything lined up and fitted without having to modify or bodge anything.
Well worth it - sounds the way it should have done out the factory!
Around town and light gas it's very civilised - from the passenger seat my wife couldn't tell that anything was different. Even under hard acceleration with the windows closed, the cabin noise isn't too intrusive.
But through the Airport tunnels with the windows down - it was spine tingling!!!!
A quick blast down the motorway at 'normal' cruise speed brilliant - no resonance or annoying hums etc

Graham did you keep the same tips or does the Tubi come with some nice twins or the like [8D]
Any pictures ?

We refitted the standard chrome plated oval tips - these just slipped on the Tubi well with a bit of filing and twisiting![&:]
There are (or will be) some alternatives to fit similar to the old psuedo 4 tube outlets. I think there is a picture on the US Champion Porsche website.
If i decided on yet more investment (!) I could follow this up - but for the moment the standard look will suffice.

Are you going to do any track days and if so have you had the new Tubi noise tested? I want to do some track days in my car (Did 6 in my C2S last year and loved them) and would like to know what a static noise test would produce before I give Manu my money.

I loved the sports exhaust on my C2S and so I am tempted by the Tubi for the Turbo as I think it really helps you enjoy the car more when its sounds like it should. The Turbo is very quiet with the standard exhaust. Any chance you could get your wife to convince my wife that the Tubi is a must have?

Thanks

There's a track day at Oulton at the end of this month - it's my intention to pop down and ask the noise marshall for a quick check. When it was tested at the last track day it had a measly 90 dBa. So if its twice as loud it will only be 93dB. At a constant throttle holding 4000 rpm, as per the sound check it doesn't roar too much as the turbo's are'nt doing much work, but in the interest of science, I let someone else do a power run past me, (not my wife!) and it sounded awesome[8D]! But not deafening.
As for negotiating with the wife - 'horse.....gate......bolted' comes to mind! BTW -The Tubi cardboard box is bloody big! And covered in TUBI EXHAST logo's, so there's no chance of hiding it when it arrives[&:]
I found booking the summer holiday the day after took her mind off it!!![;)]
Cheers

Hello Graham
I was curious about mine, so I bought a sound level meter (TECPEL 332), and although I could not find the precise test conditions on the net, the sound level of my TUBI was between 95 to 99 dBA...[:D]
Cheers

Thanks Graham and Dr P. I look forward to hearing what the Oulton noise test produces. If it comes in under 105db at two thirds revs at a track test then we are in business. On the "management" front I have a slight problem in that I am off to CAMP 4 next week so have used up some "Porsche points" already this year

Did a track-day at Oulton Park yesterday - no problems with noise test, although they didn't actually give a figure(!) but well within the 105 dB limit. Enquired later and told it was about 95 so no isues.
Comments from the pit lane wall was that the car sounded awesome.
Thought the same myself[:)][:)]

Gary if you're 'dithering' and want to have a look/listen then could arrange a meet somewhere convient.
I was really worried that i'd bugger the car up and end up with a naff Saxo sound alike - but fears were unfounded.
Cheers

Graham, the only thing I would consider is to start getting better prices from TUBI...
Their product is fab but it comes at a price...[:-]
Speak to Manu and bargain for a much better price than first quoted...[;)]
We are giving them a lot of business...[:D]

Well after hearing Grahams Tubi, I started my search, only for it to end an hour later after noticing a large lump on the sidewall of my rear tyre []
Tyres is scrap and no one has one for a week (Bridgestones).
I hit a pothole on the way back last night..[]

however once sorted I'm convinced that the exhaust change is the way forward. Graham it sounded superb.[8D]

Cheers Gary - looking at getting the dual outlet tips next! Car currently having the side skirts, front & rear bibs (the black bits) colour coded. Pics to follow!

Daul tips in black coating [8D][8D][8D]

I took a close look at the rear of my side sills, they are peppered from road debris, not sure how long the colour coded ones would last.??

I would if I had a 997tt!

Whoever steps up - please please post a sound file! [;)]

I have one on my 993TT....sounds very 'earthy'...if you tell me how to do it I'll post a sound bite of the car....

Hey Dr. P, after very nearly changing my car last month I pulled out at the last minute and decided to treat myself to a Techart Sports Exhaust and tips to put me on for a bit and keep me smiling a little bit longer.

LOL these things are really fun, sound is immense......

Filled my car up and the computer read 360 miles till empty - never had that much before and the engine revs much freer now and I can certainly feel more power. Trying to figure out how to keep the choke on at idle cause sounds just like our MAN 1100's in majorca.....
