TULIP RALLY UPDATE

Brilliant day out on some very interesting roads, it seemed to run like clock work so all credit to the hardwork of the oragnisers, well done chaps and chapesses.

It was a shame that our car never quite made it of service in time, but at least it made it there in spirit on the front cover of the road book [:D].

Can't wait until next year!

p.s. A very big raspberry to the person that I feel brought us as Porsche owners and the club into disrepute by exhibiting some quite appalling driving standards. The event was not a race!

Hi Andrew and Steve
Many thanks for an excellently organised tulip ralley, we both enjoyed the day very much, the scenery was fantastic and we drove on roads we never knew exisited, how on earth do you find them?. Already looking forward to next years run.

Many thanks
Graham and Maz

Andrew, Steve:
Thanks for a great day yesterday, can't imagine how long it took to organise. Thanks also for arranging for the fairies in the 23rd pothole to fix my oil level gauge that had taken a holiday. Thanks also to the staff at the Market Place who opened specially for us all (sorry we couldn't enjoy it for longer!).
Lastly congrats to Graham & Steve for their winning performances; I still think arm wrestling should be the decider in the event of a tie.
Paul & navigator Jane.

So who else spotted the white Ford RS200 going the other way, rare bit of kit. Can't remember where it was now, too busy paying attention.

I wasn't going to mention this but now others have aired their views, maybe naming and shaming on the forum would be a better lesson. I pulled over to let them pass after 10 minutes of being tailgated and watched in amazement as they disappeared down a single track at stupid speed. (pretty sure we're all talking about the same driver).

It will only take one nasty incident to spoil future events for others and give the club a bad name.

I was trying to be nice as I didn't want to put a downer on a brilliant day.

I didn't get chance to pull over and there wasn't space they just barged past half on the virge and then tried to go round the outside of a landy on the outside of a sharp left hander and pretty much barged it out of the way. To my reckoning it gained 5 places on the first section.

It took quite a long time to calm down after it went past, as we came across more horses and families on bikes I just got more furious. It was the only time I was glad that we didn't have the Porsche that day, I was ashamed enough as it was.

I think a ban would be perfectly reasonable.

I have been delaying responding to the last few posts until I was able to speak to Ian G.

We both have been very busy over the last couple of days however we have arranged to speak tomorrow night over this matter and some other things.

Please remember that this is not a private site so we would ask those who have already posted ( quite understandably ) or anyone else who has a comment to mail me direct. ( croxton.consultants@virgin.net ).

Once we have had a chance to think about the chain of events then we will post on this thread. Not trying to curtail the discussion just want to avoid casual observers getting the wrong idea about this navigation event which we all know was responsibly and sensibly driven by the vast majority of members.

Hope this helps - please get in touch direct with me or Ian G. if you want to add any further info. to tomorrows discussion .

Folks,

I would like to thank those of you who have been in touch with me directly - it has been very helpful. I would also like to acknowledge the editing of posts by the 2 Pauls - not unnoticed and much appreciated.

I have spoken to the person referred to this morning and have his assurance that there will be no cause for complaint next year. He had not seen what was appearing on the Forum, was concerned, has stressed that he and his co driver had no intention whatsoever of upsetting anyone and is concerned about the distress it has caused.

It was a very positive conversation and that, I believe , indicates that the message has been taken on board.

As an aside we are looking at building in some minimum time criteria for next year which would be sensibly set ( i.e. brisk and enthusiastic with due regard to road type/hazards/other road users etc.). Clearly this would not be issued beforehand to avoid anyone trying to achieve it!!

Knowing how people were feeling and being able to do something about it has been very valuable and I hope we can now agree to draw a line under this - if anyone has any comments they wish to make then please post here if appropriate or mail me direct .

Thanks

Andrew W.
