Turbo eater

So it's making maybe 40bhp more than a Lux (from blueprinting and a chip which I seriously doubt) and has standard wheels and "stripped and painted suspension components". How does it eat Turbo's and 968 ClubSports (the 911 bit I can believe [;)]) exactly? It isn't even stripped inside.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]There might be nothing wrong with it but it's hardly an amazing track weapon, is it?[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I think the Porsche club championship guys use a similar fix and get 190bhp [;)]

[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Well, always happy to be proved wrong but I have to say I'm amazed if a chip gets the car improved that much and with the same power as an S and not far shy of an S2. Even with 190bhp it's still not exactly going to worry Turbos and 968 CS's on track though (not that that matters anyway).[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I assume the quality of the ad has something to do with the audience. the forum listing is quite nice and honest. the ebay ad seems to be aimed at fiesta xr2 drivers......

The best way to get 190BHP when you're rebuilding an 8V engine is to build a 16V one instead [:)]

PS. I just found this forum today, and there seems to be a lot of useful info here. I'm looking forward to wastig - I mean investing - many happy hours here.

I'm given to wonder how this car is going to be quicker on the track as, with those nice slippy leather non sprorts seats, the driver is going to spend the majority of his time clawing his way back into his own seat from the other side of the car.

Maybe he has 4 point harnesses fitted, and just forgot to mention it.[:)]

Alternatively, he could be a good racing driver. That is probably the best way of getting a normally aspirated 8V 944 to be quicker than a Turbo on a track day. I've had experience of that in the past. A well driven mundane road car can blitz an amateur in his high performance super car, because of driver skill.

the state of the engine bay says everything to me!!

also, there is probably not a poster on here that who goes on trackdays who would be beaten by him!!!

You can't fit harnesses to standard seats - where would the straps go? They'd fall off your shoulders.

I wished the guy best of luck with his sale, churlish not too! He has got £2k bidded at the moment which I would think is top whack for the round dash model. A touch of Hyperbole on the advert is ok, but no no no not 190 from that engine.
John...he wont fall out of his seat because that year the steering wheel and seat were made so close that you are pinned in there![:D]

Crikey chaps, ouch!

I have found that with e-bay an advert needs to appeal to all markets, and so I phrased differently to an advert I would place on a Porsche forum.

Some people really do have to much spare time on their hands...[;)]

Thanks for the good wishes, some of the other comments were a bit harsh, but I am up for a challenge... see you all on the track! [;)]

As far as what the car "really" is, it is exactly what it says in the advert. I have removed the 968 CS seat and the harnesses because I thought they were limiting its appeal to a wider market. Happy to refit them though for anyone interested.

As for the bhp claim, that is what EMC claim of their race engines, and this has one of their race engines fitted so I don't see the problem?

Cheers

Actually there used to be a regular on the Pistonheads forum who had his Lux rebuilt by EMC to race spec. IIRC it had things like lightened and balanced crank, increased compression, ported and polished head, stronger valves, race cam and a rev limit somewhere in the 7500s. It had been dynoed around the 190bhp mark (but it could have been the Jamsport dyno :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:)

I definitely read Dans advert to mean the coilover suspension would run rings around a Turbo, and when you think the Lux would be 150kg lighter as well it makes sense to me

Nice to hear he's become a 'boostie boy' anyway [8D]
