I totally agree pinstripes are less offensive than tartan as a pattern, but velour is the most offensive fabric known to mankind. Having spent the most formative of my years in the 80's I feel very nostalgic for the ear and there is alot I like about it, but velour is most definitely NOT in that category.
I think it's a bit misleading to describe this as red - there was a red interior option on a small number of cars and it was bright, pillar box red (but with black dash etc to tone it down). Burgundy is much more subdued than the photo suggests. Still naff, but not retina-burning like proper red would be if it was used everywhere.
I've nothing against blue 944s Donal - in fact Lee's is the best colour I've seen one in - and on the right car a black leather interior is a top choice as well, just not on the same car. I guess Porsche would have sold the combo if someone wanted it, but perhaps the deposit taken by the dealer when it was ordered would have been a little bit higher than if it had a complimentary colour combo []
