Turbo gone GTR coming

It was a sad day to be without a road going 911 for the first time in nearly 9 years and wonder if the Nissan GTR that is arriving Tuesday will fill the void.
I have to say though that the 996 was never as emotional as the 993 and of all the Porsches I have owned the 993turbo was really special.
At present I am in the "what did I do that for?" stage.....

It will be interesting to see what you think as an owner of the GTR after all the HooHaa at launch as to how good it is etc relative to every other sports car on road

I think Porsche have re-asserted their position with the new 2010 Turbo, not just in terms of performance (if that's the appeal), but more importantly in the handling and driver involvement. However, it is a lot more expensive, and no one can dispute Nissan's achievements for the money.

Please do not leave the forum, I am sure there are a few on here that will be very interested in how you go on. I love my Turbo but can not ignore the fact I have lost the value of a GTR and a new Mini put together since my purchase.[8|]

I'm surprised - I only remember seeing Porsches at the club track days - is this definite??

Yes, there's always a Beamer at Combe when I go and I was going to take the kit car last time out but the weather was rubbish so took the 997 instead![:)] Do you have a particular track/date in mind or are you looking at next year?

Goodwood 14 November is looking good. Now if I can fit a towbar on the GTR I could bring the race car too.....

Certainly would be a sight worth seeing....![:)] I'm trying to work out how to take the 997 and the Marlin at the same time-short of buying a truck! Have you seen this thread? It's not a Porsche club day but a few of us will be there. http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=488407&mpage=1&key=

Just be VERY careful where you park your front bumper..... [link=http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/127250-accident-dont-do-what-i-did.html]http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/127250-accident-dont-do-what-i-did.html[/link]

Not to insult because the GTR has really grown on me since launch (when I hated it) but that system seems rather poorly engineered! 11,000 for that!! How long before jealous chavs work this out and start kicking the front whilst your waiting at traffic lights! That's ridiculous. Surely is should just pop up to soften the blow then clip back down as you shut the bonnet?!

Good Lord - that's crazy! Thanks for the warning. I was shocked when I was at the handover from the dealer and found out the cost of a single Dunlop tyre is £600! I bought the 3 year tyre and key insurance whilst still in shock for £500. The key is £300 to replace. First impressions are good but still reserve judgement as I am limted to 3500 revs at present! Not easy.......

Is it true that Nissan removed the launch control on the GTR because they couldn't warranty the transmission if it was used ?.

Wow you've got it already! I got the impression you'd only just ordered it. You'll have to give us the run down of what its like. I think its actually got a huge amount of pressence on the road. I was following one the other day and from the back (although different to a ferrari/lamborghini) I really did get that feeling when your following something really special. You can tell its Japan's supercar.

Have just been offered a GTR35. Can't say I like them that much however good they are! No soul!!!! However they are interested in my 996 turbo as part ex. I'm not disputing the cars technical ability as I had a friend with an R34. So I know how well they go! Incidently he now drives a Gen2 GT3 997. He got bored with it as it had little driver involvement even at stupid speeds! Now should I buy one? Choice of white or metallic grey! [>:] both cars have launch control? whats this? Is it covered under warranty? Dealer tells me its never been used on both cars!!

Now have to report that, to my surprise, this car is growing on me and I have to say it definitely has character but this is more of a kind of XStation Playbox sort of vibe. It has a fantastic gearbox and now find I am not leaving it in auto at all and am now flicking paddles almost unconsciously - it certainly seems to have a kind of soul. It's almost reassuring to find that it is flawed as the ride is rock hard whatever you do so I have the luxury of forgiving it for doing something not perfectly. I scraped side of front splitter on the kerb and was not surprised to be quoted £1100 for replacement - I thought the 996 Aerokit front P.u. was dear at £500 but now missing the bargains that are Porsche parts prices in comparison. I will be living with the scratches! Going in for its 1200 miles optimisation next week so will henceforth be pedal to metal but no trackdays with these tyres! I find myself inexplicably looking at a 1986 Carrera on Pistonheads - now what's that about.....
