Two steps forward, four steps back!

I spoke to Peter Davies at Laserline UK today, who was following up on my email to Laserline Italy. He has recommended an auto electrician in Harrow. I'm planning to see whether he can solve both the immobiliser / starter and wet weather misfire issues.

I'm resigned to replacing all four tyres, but will probably compromise on my preferred choice - Yokohama AD08s - and go for a cheaper option like the Hankook Ventus S1 Evo2s. With the money saved, I'm tempted to renew both the rusty springs and front shock absorbers, since I'm sure both are the originals and the car has done just over a 100K miles. I know refurbing the springs would get me through the MOT, but if the struts have to come off, and the geometry checked afterwards, then I might as well get fresh front suspension for my troubles.

I'll report back on here in a future post and, in the meantime, I'll post more information on my Targa roof seal and roof frame brace solutions at the weekend, when I can take some pictures.

You can put on better dampers than the standard Porsche ones at more or less the same cost. Check out the Bilstein B6's also known as HD or Sports.

Thanks, David.

Do they result in a lower ride at the front and, if so, does that mean I would need to replace the rear shocks/springs at the same time?

No the ride height is the same but you have the ability to adjust the height if you want, subject to the limitations imposed by the springs.
If you wanted to lower the height H&R or Eibach springs are the most common matches with the B6's.
I have experience of the H&R and they are stiffer and the car feels hunkered down, great for the occasional track day.
I understand the Eibach's are a softer ride and sometimes paired with Koni's though these dampers don't have the hub bracket and you'll need to use the old one from the existing ones.
Other's here might have more to say about that mix.
A guy called Tommy has posted on another thread about Silvers Neomax-R but I know nothing about them except they're well known in Asia and the EVO guys really like them and they're much cheaper than the B16's or KWv3's.
Next months PP has an article about KWv1's.
