tyre size help please!?

Hi

Ive recently decided to fit semi slicks on my 993 and having looked at both the Pirelli and Michelin I have decided that as i can get two sets of the Pirellis for the cost of one set of Michelin it would be silly not too...even if they may not be as good overall!

The question I have however is that Pirelli can only supply a 285/30/18 and not the 265/35/18 that the car should run for the rear! Can the larger tyre be fitted happily or should i be re-thinking my decision.

cheers

My 993RS had 285/30/18 fitted at the rear when I bought it. They fitted without any clearance froblems; I did a couple of thousand miles, including 3 track days, before fitting Toyo 265/35/18.

Ran on 285 s out of choice , Dunlop ssr are v wide fitting ,had no prob, or with MSC or Corsa ............u might chose to 'roll the wheel arches ', main agent should have a tool that literally rolls up'flattens in rim of arch for little more clearance

No probs with the pirellis then? Thats good news! Mind you had you rolled your arches?

To be honest Id rather not roll them [:-]

On the rs , which Bens now got yes............on the Clubsport wwa sso stiff never needed to ......................mainly ran rs on roads , bit of track, with Pirelli Rossos suspension was getting softer as it went thru 100k.........................Clubsport arrived on MSC lasted longer than i thought but were a bit twitchy in the wet! Went to SSR and no probs

I've run 285's on the rears, tried different makes of tyre and never had any clearence problems. My car is standard and has not had the arches rolled.
Hope this helps.

Thank you John....

Also any chance you could send me some pics of the interior of your car?! Mine is very similar but without the yellow backs on the seats....Id like to see what they look like if thats ok as the pics in Total911 ( which only arrived last week here in Dubai) didnt really show them that well.

cheers

285/30ZR18 PIRRELLI P ZERO CORSA, not a problem, loads of clearance,
paid £242.77 each plus the vat from Elite garages @ west sussex.

nineonetoo, I have a lot of shots of Johns interior from the Total 911 shoot from the photographer, I can send them
if you require.

If you could Steve that would be fantastic....

Im having the seats fitted today so looking forward to being able to stay in the seat at the track this weekend! Its the first running of a night time track day here in Dubai...should be fantastic and hopefully the first time that we will have a 964RS, 993RS, 996GT3RS and a 997GT3RS on the track at the same time...[:D]

thought these were expensive, with the vat and postage total for two P zero corsa was £594.00,
anybody know where to get track tyres cheaper? will need some after March 16th.

Steve, is the way forward with his toyo's...I paid less for a set of 4 for my car than quoted above for the 2 rear Pirellis.

Thanks, will check out the Toyo's, I read a post from Paul Howells on here somewhere that the
Michelins were rated as the best track tyre, any comments from a Michelin user?
After some fast laps of Bruntingthorpe, one of my rear Pirelli P Zero's was destroyed with the side
wall parting from the tread 360 degrees around the tyre, luckily I was not driving at speed....scary

Paul, whats the wear rate like on the Toyo's compared to Corsa's?, I need new rears but it would be cheaper to change all 4 and buy an extra set of rears (would be nice if they had rim protectors though)

Paul, I wish I knew!!!
Still knocking the Dunlops out??? Bought the Toyos to fit later in the season, silly not to at that price [;)]

However, quite a few of the Gt3 boys have fitted them and are happy with the grip in comparison with the mich cups and speak favourably of the wear rate.
My thought was that if they wear ok on a lardy GT3 they may well actually last forever on a Porsche lightweight [:D]

I know Vic & Nick Moss and MarkW have them on their cars, hopefully they will see this thread, but all seem happy as far as I understand.

Paul, Paul only done half a drying day at BH with mine , wud rate that circuit smooth.................came off a set of Corsa just too damn expensive for me at the rate my rear end gobbles them up! Wear well like new and i did give them some stick , reaction to water same as anything while its got a decent groove in ..............dry grip much better then SSR tad off MSCbit better than corsa by the time we get to Oulton that will be equivalent of 2 full days and very little road work , come and have a look at the end of the day ????

Paul, what sold the Toyos to me was the guy with the motec 964RS in the speed championship...Arrived in toyo shod 64RS, did the 3 runs up the hill....finished 1 sec behind 9m's awesome CS......Guy then drove the car home....so they seemed fine for road use and ready for action..............

of course this doesn't mean I personally will be any quicker in the real world and will have to start making excuses when the track season gets underway [:D]
