Help Can anyone out there source Cortinental Conti Sport 255x40zr17 NI either new or with just a few hundred miles on them Must be NI rating
Thanks Brian ro1

"Source" ... is this wholesale to sell retail or do you just want 2 / 4 to put on your car ?

If the latter, the best deal I could get last year for Conti Contact Sport I's was, believe it or not, the AA. The guy even turned up at the house on a Saturday morning and fitted them for me.

I just spoke to Elite Garages who supply the OPCs. The N1s are discontinued and not available. Superseded by the CSC2 N2.

You'll be lucky to find new ones.

Interesting. ATS told me last year they couldn't get any N1's either ! The AA came up trumps.

N1's are still showing on Conti European website - http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/de/en/continental/automobile/themes/pc_tyres/summer/conti_sport_contact/master_en.html

Good luck ... and if you find any please let me know 'cos after a track day or two this year I might need some new rears and don't fancy replacing all 4 as the fronts are still pretty good.

Elite Garages called me back.

They are able to get N1s through another member of Group Tyre (the group of specialists that they belong to that suppply the OPCs). They can have them in a couple of days. Supplies are in short supply but it looks like someone has a few squirreled away. Contact Dave Blackley on 0845 458 1080 and quote POC001 to get the PCGB discount. They will ship anywhere in the country.

Check the date on the tyres -anything over five years old, which these N1's could be, should not be used.

Thanks for all your postings ,I can get these at £129 a tyre ,Cont has discontinued them that is why I am looking around for the best deal , I tried Elite they had no stock .Cheers Brian RO1

Peter strange they told me on thursday the cannot get them

I got 4500 out of a set of Pirellis and was well peed off but that seems to be the norm. Now on Contis which seem to lasting better.

Got about 8,000 out of the first pair of rears (Pirelli P Zero N4s), which was pretty good I thought.

This second pair seem to not be lasting so well - I'm up to 6,000 already but they seem to be almost ready to change.
Incidentally I don't run them on track days either and I admit I would probably change them before they might need it (don't skimp on the tyres!). They are the only points of contact with the road, after all[:)]!

I've done 8000 in hte last year on my Michelin Pilot Sports and there's a good 3K left in the rears and lots more at the front. I haven't tried anything else but after 15K total in hte car I can't think why i'd go anywhere else. All my driving in the 993 is for pleasure and most has been at good speed with only a few track laps. I think they've served me extremely well.

Been through two set of Pirelli Assymetricos averaging about 4500 miles a time - purely road use. Currently on Michelin Pilot Sports and 3000 miles on they look like they have plenty of tread left.

Guys

Many thanks for your comments, much appreciated.

From all your replies i think the general consensus is that the Michelin PS and Continental are pretty much the same in terms of wear/tyre life, the Continental are slightly cheaper than the Michelin, however from the replies here it appears that the Continental are technically a very good tyre but often over looked for the Pirreli's and Michelin's, incidentally what is the feel of the car with Continental?

My gut feeling is that i should go for the Michelin as they are O.E fitment on a Porsche, F1 & Motorsport kudos, but part of me is saying to try the Continental as i won't be disappointed - German Tyre, German Quality, etc. seems to be the silent outsider......

As I mentioned i have spoken with Pirelli who are going to carry out a technical analysis of the tyres and put a report together, i will let you know of the outcome.

I have always had Continentals over 10 years of 993 and 964 ownership. I've lost count of how many sets. Excellent handling and wear characteristics I would say.

However. I had a puncture in one of my rear tyres last week, and my local tyre depot only had Pirelli PZero N3 Rossos in stock, so I bought a pair to try them out, £129 each fitted, inclusive of VAT and balancing. Seemed quite a reasonable price compared to the Contis.

So - first impressions. They feel very like the contis so far - good firm handling - inspiring plenty of confidence. (I'm running them at 40 psi initially.)

We'll see how well they wear in the light of comments above - but one thing I would say. 911 tyre wear is very dependant on driving style. I'm sure an enthusiastic driver could wear out a set of rears in an afternoon - (witness Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear in a Lambo etc). One could also potter about and make them last two years and 8,000 miles plus. It really depends how you drive.

Hi Mark

I've normally got about 10K out of a set rear pirelli's PZero Rosso N3, thats why i found it strange that the current set of N4's have only lasted about 3500 miles.....

I'm still in two minds about which tyres to go for Michelin or Continental, your comments about the Continental are interesting that they feel like the Pirelli's, incidently what mileage were you getting from the continental front & rear?

Rajith

I changed my Bridgestone N2's after 12000 still with just 4mm on. No track use but I do drive it hard.

ORIGINAL: rperera

Hi Mark

incidently what mileage were you getting from the continental front & rear?

Rajith

I reckon I was getting about 8,000 from the rears (driven with a modicum of care) and anything up to 15,000 plus for the fronts ? I've usually ended up replacing the fronts through damage or puncture, rather than wear - so it's hard to say.

I keep going with Conti's - they were original equipment albeit the N rating is now 2 rather than 0. The last set of rears (17") bought just before Christmas were £115 each (fitted and balanced). Couldn't believe they were so cheap. I use the car every day for work and they seem to be reasonably hard wearing (somewhere north of 12k miles). Noise and grip are perfectly good for my (non-track) use.

Mmm. Wouldn't mind trying the Contis next time but I'm not sure about putting different make tyres on the back (i.e. Then I'd have Pirelli N4s on the front - still lots of tread left - and Conti N2s on the back).

I prefer to have the same make all round, but if there's no real practical difference and you get more wear as well for your £ why not? Any thoughts on this please, anybody?
