Tyres........

Did someone mention tyres?

Try searching the forum for "tyres" - or indeed just click here:

There are other threads but this one should do it.

One other thing, I would love for someone to show us all the clause in their insurance policy that says you have to have N-rated tyres. Come on folks, think about this for a second [:)] I would bet money that (by inference) it says nothing more than that you have to have road legal tyres which means simply having sufficient tread depth across 3/4 of the tyre. This insurance/N-rating thing is an urban myth.

I e-mailed Continental back with some more questions as follows:-

How do the N rated tyres differ?

Since N rated tyres weren't around when my car was manufactured in 1988, why do I need to fit them now?

The answer came back:-

If your vehicle was not originally specified on N tyres due to its age then there is no necessity to fit them.

SO maybe you lot were right, and the fact that they fail to answer the 1st question is odd - guess we'll never know!

DO YOU KNOW...that when I last looked at this/my thread there were only a couple of replies...and so I went ahead and bought the N Contis anyway.

It's good to here that someone is happy with these tyres on their car (Iain) and if it's a matter of price, I got them at £105.00 inc valve, fitted, balanced and Vat.

What's more, the agreed to use my soft socket for both taking the wheels off and torquing up at the finish![:)]

I am very happy with the tyres - haven't even thought about letting go yet (famous last words).

Total price for the 4 from Headley Tyres was 378.35 including fitting, balancing and VAT and they did a good job - no visible weights, zero tolerance balancing and hand torqued the nuts - unfortunately they couldn't do the alignment though!
