UK's most expensive 2.7?

only the Turbo and the S2 had a rear valance as standard, and that was the flat 'tray' type. the toast rack style(I use the word 'style' advisedly) was a Porsche accessory, and never fitted to cars from the factory.
 
Presume you all mean by toastrack the rear valance with downward slats. This was a factory fitted bodykit and could be ordered when you specked the vehicle. I had a 944 lux delivered new from AFN Isleworth back in 85. Spec was White with white colour coded Fuchs , side skirts, rear valance and bonnet scoop. Sun roof and black leather sport seats.£20,000 on the road.
It looked sensational.
Still miss my 944's but bought the better half one so I get to play in hers.

Yeah I agree - looks good, probably the best car in a while I've seen in white. You'd still be nuts to buy one brand new in white though if you value the thickness of your wallet!

I think they must be. [:D] Looked on autotrader website and there's an 89G Turbo and an 89F S2 for £8995 and plenty of more expensive cabs!
 
Milage is relavent

My car has done a lot of miles, and had an engine rebuild, but I still expect things to go wrong with it as they wear out - I've just had the 2 gearbox's for the hood replaced, and the clutch pedal is grating a bit..
The engines, bodywork and major components are well built and designed for a long life, but eventually things give up the ghost. As we are all aware, the repair / replacement of relatively minor items can still end up with a substantial bill, especially in relation to the value of the car.
High milage cars are cheaper because of this, so the milage is definately relevant. I got my car for a good price, but with my eyes open to the potential downside

Your two examples are good. The hood mechanism would wear out far quicker on a low-mileage sunny-day car that had the hood used every drive than on a motorway-muncher that had never had the top down in it's life. Similarly, I can drive 300 miles to Cornwall with about 6 gearchanges, or sit in traffic on the A40 and use the clutch 100 times in a mile - which would wear out the clutch faster??

The point 911 Virgin made to me was that it is only relevant what the car has done in the last couple of years. Who cares if it had a belt change 1000 miles ago, if that was 5 years back and is overdue? So what if the car did 30k per year in it's first two years, if it's been cossetted for the last 18 years? Look at the current condition, and the recent history, and that is a better guide than mileage.

I don't think you can judge a car by it's mileage alone. That is just as simplistic as saying that a 1989 car would be better than a 1987 car!

Just my personal opinion, and thus pretty worthless [:)]
 
Sorry guys...white is 'orrible!!

In a former life used to sell cars, we sold a lot of white new cars, but the forecourt was littered with white used cars that nobody wanted.

When alls said and done, at least silver looks nice and always will. Not so sure about the blues that make up the bulk of 911s/Boxsters, which look cr*p, but I don't like blue anyway [:'(]

Interestingly no rear valance is not present on the cars in the Press Release photos I have, but the turbo valance is indicated in the Sept 1987 price list as standard. No other option is available in the price list.

My mistake. I have a 1988 944 brochure and it is only on the Turbo.

My old white Lux had a toast rack and I think it looked far more butch than the Turbo under tray and certainly wouldn't have changed it for one.
 
Dont think they were fitted, (was the toast rack an option on pre 86?) just most have had them retro fitted as it tidies up the back by hiding the rear wheel well,

Their silence over mileage would suggest they're not especially low...

I believe that's just another 911virgin-ism. They won't quote mileage (even if you call them and ask apparently ~ never dealt with them myself) as Henry insists it's not indicative of a car's condition or (therefore) worth. Which is a view shared by many....but refusal to discuss the subject must turn a few potential buyers away (?)

I've just spoken to a friend of mine about these two cars - he's rung 911virgin, and they told him the mileage no problem.

So, the white 944 Lux (http://www.911virgin.com/944rev.htm) has 40,000 approximately, and the Red 944Lux (http://www.911virgin.com/944hrttt.htm) has 100,000 approximately.

I too am not a great fan of White cars - they put me in mind of a White Peugeot 405 I once had that had been a taxi (And you think it takes a lot of cash to keep a 944 on the road [:(] ) - but this one does look tidy.

White is brilliant !!!! It shows up the lines of the car much better than any other colour IMHO. And boy does it look good at night under the street lights.

And it stays looking clean for much longer than most other colours. And dents don't stand out as much as on any other colour. And it stays cool in the summer. And people can see you coming (unless it is snowing). And white cars are often in better condition because rust stands out like a sore thumb. And scratches don't stand out. And pretty much any interior colour looks OK with white. And white wheels look excellent on a white car. And the Le Mans winning GT1's were white.
 
....and don't forget Transits - one of the best selling motors of the last decade, and most of them are white too. And if you don't polish it, you can just buy a bottle of tipex to touch up stone chips!
 
I actually quite like white on older cars as they tend to have some contrasting black trim to offset it - small stuff like door handles is enough usually. Also John is of course absolutely right in what he says. I have come to realise a couple of things are far more significant than I had thought recently:[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]When buying the MX5 I wanted a few things (not all relevant); Mk1, 1.8, no toys, black paint, roof and leather seats. I got exactly that (OK I have PAS if that's a toy), but it's only now I realise how hot an all black car really is in the sun.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]My wife recently changed her bright blue SEAT Ibiza for a silver one. She has noticed a huge increase in people not seeing her in the silver car compared with the blue one.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]I also realised how good white can look at Oulton last year when one of the 968 guys was there with a white ClubSport. The car has the highlights in red, which looks great, but being white he has free reign to play with wheel colour and I'm a sucker for non-silver wheels (except gold [:'(]). The 911 ClubSport and GT3 RS look great in white with the red or blue graphics also. They have to be clean and immaculate to look good, but as John says it is actually relatively easy to keep them that way. They are also easy to paint match when they need repair in comparison to red or metallic colours (though black is easier still I believe?)[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]Unfortunately I don't think the 944 is great in white because for whatever reason Porsche painted them Alpine white which is slightly cream rather than Grand Prix white (like the 911s are) that is a brilliant white. A Grand Prix white 944 would look really good though.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]I think in a few years silver will be the new white; vans are increasingly coming in metallics with silver the most popular variant, and now Plod is buying silver cars in many areas. Add to that the fact that 1 in 4 cars sold for the last 5 years (so it seems anyway) is silver and it is a market with a bottom about to fall out. I'm not convinced white will become new silver, but I do think the stigma will go - it used to be popular after all, you only have to look at the number of 80's and early 90's cars in white to see that.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

I have to admit, I never liked white cars. My 83 lux was zermatt silver and I painted it black because, after all, black is the only colour for the 944...right?

) now after having and living with it the past 2 years it has really grown on me, I was going to repaint that car also, I still will, but it will be in its original alpine white

BTW. I'm currently working in a car dealership here in florida. I can tell you for fact that after silver, WHITE is the second biggest selling car colour here in the USA!

I was in LA a few months ago, and I noticed that Silver and White were both very popular. We hired a Chrysler Sebring Convertible there - they had 6 available, 5 where White, and 1 was Silver - I chose White because it had Leather seats.

I guess those colours (colors?) are popular over there because of the sun - even in Winter it was 70-80 degrees.

It was great fun driving along the Pacific Coast Highway with the top down. Perfection would have been driving along it in my 944 instead of the Sebring [:D].
 
I personally think that white does NOT suit blandoboxes, but does suit more interesting shapes. I think the S2 and Turbo look great in white ~ very "clubsport" as an admiring onlooker once commented.

And if anyone on here can tell me honestly that they don't think THIS looks awesome, I shall PM you my home address whereupon you may send me your hat for my consumption.

It's the noughties guys ....
- White is the new Black
- Black is the new silver
- Brown is the new yellow
- Aubergine is the new Aquamarine
- Chrome is the new silver
- Red continues to remain wholly undesirable
