Update - Classic Le Mans

early 911

Just come off the phone with Eion Sloane (Race Car register secretary).

Format is going to be very similar to that of previous years. Price has yet to be finalised but will no doubt be cheaper than buying from ACO direct. Plus you've obviously got the added bonus (major bonus) of taking advantage/being part of the 'Porsche hospitality' (i.e. special club parking/facilities).

Although overseeing the process, he is using Club office to sort out tickets etc. When the time comes, you will have to write to Club office (so you'll need to be a member) enclosing a SAE, credit card details/cheques maybe even a photograph (real photo) of the car. Tickets will then be sent to you directly from Porsche Club France.

He reckons there won't be a limit to the number of cars accepted, so don't write now as your request will probably be binned. January's Porsche Post will have all the details. These details will include information on camping packages (i.e. they'll be a package for the race only, and one with camping included). You can't be anything until January's Porsche Post apart from book the ferry and accommodation if you need it (and can find somewhere).

Sorry there's nothing solid here . . . I think the main message is don't panic.

Before everyone goes off booking ferries . . . could we please try and sort out some kind of convoy down. Personally I'm not too keen on Calais as it's so far and so boring . . . how about the overnight from Caen?

Phil

In 2004 we took the Newhaven / Dieppe route and travelled on the early morning Thursday ferry and got to Le Mans for mid afternoon. We got the Monday evening ferry home.

I am planning to travel on similar days but I am easy as to which route we take

Hi all if theres enough members could we look into a possible group booking and attract a reduced price, it will need some one to organise and confirmed booking payment how this could be done i'm not sure.I'm planing to do both Le mans next year but this means going onthe cheapest way ,as we're off back to south of france the following week after the classic! On a different thread, i'm looking for a ducktail lid if any one as any thing spareBrett

Looking good for Caen . . . if no-one else voluteers, I'll look into the group booking discount (unlikely I feel).

Mike . . . . Hi there, first post [:D]

IS this for 2006 event I think I will have to wait till 2008 for my car.....hmmmm

Are you going Portsmouth route I might be able to ask a certain lady I know if she can give a discount for rooms in Southampton for anyone wanting to breakup the drive.( Might be able to get £49 rate for Express by Holiday inn and breakfast as well ) Southampton to Portsmouth Ferry is about 20-25 mins with no traffic. I would be more than happy to bring my 912 to the hotel and follow me to the Ferry and wave you off...

Mark

Got my pass out (although theh wife's coming too so not sure if that counts!) and hotel!!!. Planning fast ferry Portsmouth - Caen as usual probably on the Wednesday although possibly thursday. Given that we're 'oop north' (Carlisle) may want a hotel in Portsmouth area.

Any cheap ferry rates going anywhere?

Roy

How about this:

Outbound crossing:
Portsmouth to Caen Wed 5 Jul 2006 Depart 23:15 Arrive 07:15
Vessel is MONT ST MICHEL

Inbound crossing:
Caen to Portsmouth Mon 10 Jul 2006 Depart 17:00 Arrive 21:45 (meaning people will either miss the traffic in the UK, or be able to stop over if travelling further e.g. at Marks Express Hotel in Southampton)
Vessel is NORMANDIE

Cost for the ferry is £249 (inc cabin on the way out . . . I'll see if I can get a discount for a group booking)

So let's say a 'group' of early Porsches will be on the following crossings. I will produce a pack for anyone that turns up with maps to Le mans/places of interest etc (i.e. a point of contact . . . but not running the show) experience suggests that the Classic is not something you can organise . . . you have to live it.

Sounds a good deal - apparently the 'fast' ferry which I would normally prefer is fully booked already!

Can I qualify as an 'early' - mines an '88!

The more the merrier . . . just hide it when/if we do a group photo[;)]

I'll call about a group booking at lunch time . . . so regardless people can start booking.

put me down on the list Phil [:D]

Is the cost of £249 for car & occupants? if there was 1 car with 2 people in it I assume we just pay the £249 all in?

£249 is the price I was quoted for 1 car and 2 people (obvioulsy you might want to check this yourself on their website http://www.brittany-ferries.co.uk/index.cfm?articleid=64 )

I called them about a discount and yes there is one for 'rallies' with more than 10 cars . . . . however it's only 10% and I'd have to co-ordinate it all (i.e. collect everyones payments and pay them in one go . . . this means financial comittment from people and me) . . . so I wasn't very keen. Unfortunately there wasn't a way of giving people a password to quote on booking . . . it's all in one go or nothing. Only positive is if we got over 21 cars that 21st car (which would be mine[;)]) would get a free ferry ticket.
Do people think it's worth the hassle for £25?
