Uprated Engine/Transmission mountings?

Can anyone advise where to get reasonably priced upgraded Engine/Transmission mountings? I understand that ClubSports used something a littler firmed that were also used on Cabriolets. What are the alternative options?

Standard, Clubsport/Cabrio or solid.

Solid for racing only IMHO. Clubsport would be a good upgrade as the standard ones do wear out - especially if you make track days a habit. I am starting to get a noticeable increase in driveline movement with standard mounts.

Bert will probably pop up with a price.

Francis Tuthills have some Cabrio mounts in stock, and they' re good value. I think that the harder mounts of the Cabrio are a great move towards " solid" which although sound attractive require (IMHO) you to think hard about the use on a road situation...they are noisy.

Just thought I'd revive this thread seeing that I have just ordered a set of Clubsport/Cabrio mounts from OPC Swindon partly in reaction to the sport/solid mount debate on the Pelican forum.

Part numbers are 911.375.043.07 for these mounts.

Bert Gear informed me that they are dealer only parts and so I was expecting the worst when I enquired at the OPC. However, they were reasonably priced at £29.31 +VAT each (Knock off 10% for the PCGB discount). I believe they are cheaper than the standard mounts...

I was a little disappointed that the transmission mounts on the 87-89 Carreras cannot be changed individually as on the earlier 915 transmissions. The OPC could only offer me a new transmission crossmember with new bushes (part number 911.375.031.09) at £369 +VAT (ouch !!). I declined...

The mounts should arrive this week. I'll let you know if I notiice any difference.

Cheers

Anil

P.S Thanks again to Steve Darnell for clarifying the above part numbers.

Don't know if anyone in the UK offers this service but in NZ some number of years ago I sent my crossmember (complete with gearbox mounts) to a gearbox shop and they replaced the bushings only with a poly bushing. This was for my 1972 915 gearbox. It might be possible here.

Well the new Clubsport engine mounts have finally been fitted and I am pretty pleased with the results.

They seemed to have improved the overall driveability of the car by removing most of the driveline "shunt" I was experiencing when negotiating slow 1st/2nd gear traffic.

I haven't noticed any increase in noise in the cabin, but the engine definitely sounds different in a nice way, which is a bonus.

For all those of you who still have their original engine mounts on their cars, I would recommend this simple and relatively cheap upgrade.

Cheers

Anil
