This thread has some odd parallels with my life:
Obergurgl: I go there every January, have done so for the last 12 years. Always in the Gotthard. Superb place, have always wanted to drive there. I was born in Austria and learned to drive on the Kitzsteinhorn in an E30 BMW on studded tyres - that teaches you about RWD winter car control!
944 winter prep: I am just looking at this as I'm competing in a winter rally in my early 944 this December. I expect that last 400 miles will be done almost entirely on snow and ice at speed.
As already said above by Simon et al you will want to make sure your seals are up to the job. I'll be using a silicon grease on my doors and hatch seals. Oil is a consideration, however if you will be able to park your car up in a covered garage (most of the decent hotels in Obergurgl have them) then I think you'd be ok keeping your standard 10W/40 in as you'll not be letting it drop in temp too much.
Consider picking up a 12V ceramic fan heater to run off your cig lighter. I always have one in my rally kit as they give out instant hot air and are great for demisting the interior. Don't run one for long on the battery though without the car running.
How is your alternator? You'll be running with lights, heater, wipers etc on most of the time, worth making sure its up to the task if you have concerns. Take a full set of fuses, relays and bulbs with you.
Lastly tyres. I have the benefit of several sets of wheels for my 944 rally car. The best winters I've found for performance/price are Yokohama W.Drive. They are a true high silicon winter tyre and are V rated so you can let loose on the autobahns.
